Position Summary:Measures the electrical activity in patients with instruments used by physicians in diagnosing neurological disorders.Position Key Accountabilities:
Operates electromyography (EMG) or electroencephalogram (EEG) instruments to record electrical activity
Explains procedures to patients.
Obtains patient’s medical history.
Performs routine maintenance of equipment and orders medical supplies.
EEG Specific Activities
Independently prepares patients for testing and/or monitoring by accurately placing electrodes and using established protocols required for the procedure.
Recognizes artifacts on EEG recording with an attempt to eliminate. Requests assistance from physician and/or peers when difficulties are encountered.
Recognizes abnormalities on EEG and enhances them by utilizing appropriate filter settings, paper speeds and/or monitoring techniques.
Completes a technical description and prepares recorded EEG recording for the physician.
EMG Specific Activities
Assists Neurologist in performing EMG procedures with a focus on patient comfort and physician needs. May also perform EMG procedure independently under the supervision of physician.
Prepares patients for nerve conduction studies in a professional manner and as specified by the physician.
Measures and records time and distance between stimulus and response, manually or using a computer, and calculates velocity of electrical impulse in peripheral nerve.
Monitors response on oscilloscope and records the nerve conduction velocity.
Legibly records accurate latencies and calculations on designated forms for physician review.
Prepares printed results for physician review.

Minimum Education:
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Associate’s degree in related field preferred.
Neurodiagnostic Technology degree preferred.
Medical Assistant experience preferred.
Minimum Experience:
One (1) year of related experience.
