MY ROLE

I do some consulting for 2 Thai Massage spas located in North San Antonio ($42.50 per service hour plus tips) and North/Central San Antonio ($45 per service hour plus tips). Both are busy and hiring. I work at the North/Central one and I also have my own mobile massage practice/clients. I have been working as an LMT since 2019. Currently the shift start and end times are flexible but once we get both spas fully staffed they will probably be 8a-2p, 2p-8p, or 8a-8p in order to optimize usage of the treatment rooms. If you want to work later until 9p you can. We don’t have a minimum number of shifts/hours you have to work every week. We have a wide spectrum of some therapists working 1 6-hour shift per week to others working 6 12-hour shifts per week.

EXPERIENCE LEVEL

The owner of the 2 spas prefers to hire LMTs with at least 2 years of spa experience. However I can provide free training for current students of massage therapy schools or recent graduates and licensees. Applying to work at one of the 2 spas is optional but if that’s your goal I would be helping you prepare for the interview/practical. Of course to begin working there you would need your active Texas massage therapy license. However if you are in mt school right now we can train you up, then setup your interview/practical with the spa owner, so you can start working immediately after your mt license is active. I also offer the training just to help out people who are new to the MT industry, to network, and to improve my teaching skills.

THAI COMBINATION MASSAGE

I would start with teaching you a Thai Combo routine (ashiatsu, Thai stretches, Swedish/deep tissue), silicone cupping, and hot stones at my home massage therapy studio. How fast you master it would depend on your experience level and how often we train. For example if someone just started massage school (4-8 month 500-hour program depending on FT or PT), is new to kinesthetic hands-on learning (dance, sports, exercise, carpentry, wilderness survival, etc), and is still working through anxiety it might take 2 60m lessons per week for 2 months to get them really confident and ready to ace the practical with the owner. But if the student/collaborator is an LMT with 10 years of spa experience who has been doing Western deep tissue but wants to add Thai stretches, backwalking/ashiatsu, and silicone cupping to their modalities toolbox they will probably feel confident after 3 60m lessons over the course of 2-3 weeks. I’m patient and happy to help out people who are slow learners and or new, as long as they show up on time to the training sessions.

EXPERIENCED LMTs / INDEED

If you are an experienced LMT who wants to go ahead and apply, I can direct you to the job post on Indeed. The owner offers in-spa training in Thai stretches and ashiatsu for experienced LMTs who are already proficient in deep tissue and Swedish. No spa is perfect, both locations have room for improvement, but the volume of clients and pay is very good.

If you are an MT student or new LMT who wants me to train you up so you are ready for the practical and are vetted/recommended by me directly to the owner, this is the training application process:

TRAINING APPLICATION PROCESS

First, please read this entire post. Second, type me a long email or chat message giving a biography about yourself and your training goals (personality traits, education and job history, skills, interests, hobbies, aspirations, causes you are passionate about). I prefer working with people who are fluent in English so that our interactions go smoothly without a language barrier. However, if the student is setting aside at least 4 hours per week to actively study English on their own and I see that effort/progress I’m willing to work with them. I have to screen applicants thoroughly because the training is at my home spa studio so there is a safety risk for me. Third, we can meet for 30 minutes for a tea/coffee/smoothie/juice at a cafe for a vibe check where we talk about the info in your email or expand on it. From there if we both feel comfortable we can book some training sessions. Ideally you have a coworker, peer, friend, or partner who can join us since bodywork training works best with 2 students (3 people total).

VIBE, ACTIVISM

My teaching style is catered toward individuals with SPS (sensory processing sensitivity), inattentive ADD, and nonlinear complex mental patterns since that is what I have. I’m working on adapting to different learning and personality styles of students/collaborators. I plan on transitioning into education reform and youth empowerment activism in 2029 so I want to build up teaching experience.

INSIDER TIPS

I can also answer questions about mobile massage, Soothe, Bigtoe, WordPress, Square POS, poker massage, light tax questions (not certified in that), Vistaprint, supplies from Amazon, DeepFeet, and starting a private massage practice.

Sincerely,

Rochelle
