The InSite software division is a separate SBM business entity that is chartered with the design, development and support of the company’s technology used by its massive work force and independent clients. We are building the next generation service provider platform targeting facilities management. The

Front-End

Engineer will be responsible for the InSite web application. The InSite web application is our primary interface for accessing our system for PC, tablet and mobile web application. The web application is a complex tool that is the basis for how SBM empowers its’ workforce and manage our customers. The web application consists of 9 primary modules that allows us to manage such things as contract setup, on-line learning / knowledge center, financials and safety to name a few. The web application suite allows in-depth, complex analysis for senior and executive management so they can effectively run the company. As a Front-End Engineer, quite simply, you will own our technology and architecture. This means from participating at a deep level in the design of the product to the technical architecture decisions to implementation and support, you get to put your mark on it. You will work with the UI/UX designers and bridge the gap between graphical design and technical implementation, taking an active role on both sides and defining how the application looks as well as how it works. We are looking for a Front-End Web Application Developer who is motivated to combine the art of design with the art of programming.

Responsibilities

  • Deep expertise and hands on experience with web applications and programming languages and frameworks such as AngularJS (our site is written in Angular 2.0), Java Script, HTML and CSS.
  • Strong understanding of UI, cross-browser compatibility, general web functions and standards.
  • Solid knowledge of open-source web application ecosystem and the libraries available for common tasks.
  • Experience in planning and delivering software platforms used across multiple products and organizational units.
  • Deep functional knowledge and hands on design experience with JSON-based RESTful web services.
  • Strong grasp of security principles and how they apply.
  • Be able to translate the UI/UX design wireframes to actual code that will produce visual elements of the application.
  • Ensure the technical feasibility of UI/UX designs.
  • Optimize application for maximum speed and scalability.
  • Assure that all user input is validated before submitting to back-end.
  • Good understanding of asynchronous request handling and partial page updates.
  • Basic knowledge of image authoring tools, to be able to crop, resize, or perform small adjustments on design assets. Familiarity with tools such as Gimp or Photoshop is a plus.
  • Building reusable code and libraries for future use.
  • Proficient understanding of code versioning tools and techniques, and automated build / release solutions.
  • Be driven to have a deep understanding of what you and your teammates are working on, why it is important and how your software technology accomplishes business goals.
  • Superior communication skills. Whether it’s written, verbal, formal presentation or informal hallway talks, the successful candidate will be a superstar. Concise, honest and accurate techniques are a must.
  • You must have the courage to give your team, peers and managers constructive feedback. Feedback given correctly and received correctly is a gift.
  • Be a great problem solver. The right candidate must be constantly looking for issues and solving them effectively. Issues can range from people to tech to business. If you don’t enjoy problem solving, this is not the right job for you.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering or equivalent.
  • 8+ years of software development.
  • 3+ years of front-end development on SaaS products.
  • 5+ years of developing software using agile methods.
  • 2+ years with a products SDLC.
  • Experience building and operating large scale systems.
  • Having lead a small team of developers is a big plus.
  • Contributions to a large open source project is a big plus.
  • Experience being successful in a startup environment is a big plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate cross-functional groups to accomplish goals.
  • Be a mature full formed adult in your interactions with people. Conduct yourself with respect for others but drive results.
