JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIESDepartment Research Support: Coordinates strategies to enhance collaboration between investigators. Work with the Department Chair to evaluate the department research program based on feasibility studies, strategic plans, and program development and implementation. Coordinates effectively with the department leadership, division finance directors, and other departments by establishing effective working relationships. Completes special projects and reports assigned by the department PI/faculty request.Research Planning: Facilitate interactions with faculty and staff across departments, divisions, and institutional boundaries. Meet with individual investigators to explore research interests and experience. Gather information on various funding opportunities, including federal and state grants and philanthropic and industry-sponsored awards that support existing and planned program activities. Assist with preparing scientific communications, including presentations, peer-reviewed publications, and reports related to research projects.Regulatory Compliance: Maintain communication with all internal and external customers, including the Development office, OSP, ORA, G&C, IRB, IACUC, and legal departments. Assist in writing, preparation, submission, revision, and continuation of IRB application. Develops and manages the department implementation of systems, policies, and procedures affecting the submission, review, and approval.Grant Preparation and Writing: Provide administrative planning for large grant initiatives for the research program. Assist Department Chair with writing, reviewing, and editing the grant's research strategy and other relevant sections. Re-writes to effect or improve logical presentation, coherence, clarity, and persuasiveness of the material. Gathers and analyzes information skillfully; develops alternative solutions; works well in group problem-solving situations. Ensure compliance with departmental and administrative institutional policies and procedures.Grants Support: Work with the DI Pre-Award and Post-Award team to assist in planning, administrative and financial support, including budget development and management. Organizes, coordinates, and meets regularly with department PIs to submit proposals and seek feedback to maintain continued growth in the department. Coordinate all department grant-funded administrative activities in both the Pre-Award and post-award phases. Coordinates with the funding agency to ensure compliance with their specific requirements. Assist Chair and Department Administrator in forecasting and monitoring all financial and budgetary matters to ensure prospective fund assignments are appropriate and expenses are within budgets. Participates in strategic planning to provide sustained funding for all personnel and research activities. Assist in assembling data from unique financial statements and other reports.
