The histologic techniques include the following: fixation, processing, embedding, microtomy, and staining of tissue for the pathologist evaluation and diagnosis.Essential Key Job Responsibilities:Receives, accessions as required, and prepares tissues and other biological materials using accepted histological techniques; performs proper labeling, fixation, embedding, microtomy, staining, and coverslipping.Sections and stains histological specimens for routine and special studies. Prepares various stains, solutions, and other compounds used in the staining process. Follows written technical procedures.Prioritizes work appropriately. Follows laboratory turnaround time standards. Uses time efficiently.Assists pathologists within scope of practice.Monitors supply inventory and assists in ordering and stocking, properly logs reagents and supplies into the lab when received. Follows laboratory inventory procedures.Demonstrates competency operating, troubleshooting and maintaining equipment.Performs routine maintenance on equipment and instruments in accordance with manufacturer specifications and completes maintenance records. Contacts Biomedical Engineering or Manufacturer for assistance or repair as needed.Able to multitask effectively and to work with limited supervision.QualificationsRequired Education and Experience:Opt 1: Successful completion of an accredited Histotechnician or Histotechnologist programOpt 2: HS and 60 college/university semester hrs, with a combination of 12 hrs biology and chemistry (must include both) AND one year full time acceptable experience in a histopathology laboratory within the last 5 years including fixation, embedding, microtomy, processing and staining.Opt 3: Associates degree with a combination of 12 hrs biology and chemistry (must include both) AND one year full time acceptable experience in a histopathology laboratory within the last 5 years including fixation, embedding, microtomy, processing and staining.Opt 4: Will consider candidates with High School diploma and two or more years of experience in all areas of routine histology in lieu of academic credit/degree and/or certification.Preferred Education and Certifications:Associate degree and successful completion of an accredited Histotechnician program, AND/ORHistotechnician certification, HT, by American Society of Clinical PathologyRequired Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and TrainingDetail-oriented with the ability to multitask and prioritize duties.#labtexas#HistologyBaylorPay Range$23.87 - $32.82 /hourWe are an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer.
