With our combined resources CommonSpirit is committed to building healthy communities advocating for those who are poor and vulnerable and innovating how and where healing can happen both inside our hospitals and out in the community.ResponsibilitiesProvides support to mother/infant dyads with breastfeeding needs and lactation problem in a mannerdevelopmentally appropriate for adolescents and adults as necessary; Accountable for evaluation ofcontinuous quality improvement, and compliance with hospital policy and procedure.ESSENTIAL KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Instructs mothers on all tasks necessary to initiate and maintain lactation during the infant’s hospitalization; may include prenatal

instruction and post-discharge follow-up

Evaluates breastfeeding oral motor mechanics of infants and milk transfer making appropriate recommendations and

management strategies

Documents observations, assessments and recommendations made during consultation in patient record

Performs all tasks necessary to ensure the mother’s adherence to quality control departmental policies related to milk collection,

storage and transport

Obtains information on maternal medication use and evaluates its compatibility or prohibitive status related to breastfeeding or

expressed breast milk feeding

Attends continuing education Workshops, seminars and in-services and fulfills all mandatory education requirements as

documented on staff development roster

Attends staff meetings and/or reads minutes 90% of the time to keep abreast of current information as documented in meeting

sign-in sheets

Participates in Hospital Performance Improvement activities, offers written or verbal recommendations and Participates in

development of team goals on a yearly basisQualificationsRequired Education and Experience Education: Associates Degree, NursingExperience: Two year’s lactation experienceRequired Licensure and Certifications Registered Nurse; Lactation Consultant (IBCLC); BLS, NRPPay Range$25.18 - $36.52 /hourWe are an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer.
