If qualified, the candidate would teach legal studies courses at the undergraduate level including US Judicial Process, US Constitutional Law-Federalism, and US Constitutional Law-Civil Liberties as well as courses in the legal studies minor. The department enrolls approximately 4,400 students each semester. It has approximately 300 political science majors, 110 political science minors, 250 Legal Studies minors, and 2 Globalization Studies minors. The department offers a Master’s degree with approximately 25 students. UTRGV was recently designated an RU 2 doctoral granting institution by the Carnegie Foundation with aspirations to become an R1 in the future.Minimum QualificationsThe qualifications to be considered as a Part-Time Lecturer is a Master’s degree in Political Science or a related field of study (18 hours of graduate coursework in Political Science) from an accredited institution of higher education.Discipline Specific Required QualificationsFor teaching legal studies minor classes, applicants must: possess a Juris Doctor (JD) or a Master of Law ( LLM ) degree from an accredited institution, have extensive experience as an attorney or judge, and be retired or have substantial time each week to teach one or two legal studies courses during an academic term.Preferred QualificationTeaching experience is desirable, as well as the ability to use technology to support teaching and learning. ABDs or Ph.D. in Political Science or closely related field of study (18 hours of graduate coursework in Political Science) from an accredited institution. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas ( TRS ), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program ( ORP ) instead of TRS , subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days inlength.
