About the Position: The mission of the CCAD is to overhaul, repair, modify, retrofit, test and modernize helicopters, engines and components for all services and foreign military customers. CCAD is the Army's Center of Industrial and Technical Excellence for Rotary Wing Aviation Maintenance. Responsibilities Perform dimensional and visual inspection and tests on a wide variety of complex to very complex component parts received as locally fabricated, activity procured material, and/or government furnished material for use in rotary wing aircraft items Reviews requests for Material Review Board (MRB), Configuration Control Board (CCB), Equipment Improvement Recommendations (EIRs), customer complaints, and/or proposed revisions. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to inspect as a Machinist Inspector . I have the ability to perform common duties which include Performs first article inspections, in-process inspections, and final product inspections on locally fabricated, activity procured components, and/or Government Furnished Materials (GFM). I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability to Inspect Ability to Use Hand Tools for Machine Shop Ability to Use Shop Drawings Knowledge of Metals Measurement and Layout Operation of Machine Tools Technical Practices (Theoretical, Precise, Artistic) PHYSICAL EFFORT: Inspector is regularly required to stand, use hands and fingers to feel, and be able to communicate effectively. Inspector is frequently required to walk in machine shop areas where fabrication is taking place to pull random samples. Inspector is occasionally required to sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Inspectors must regularly lift and carry items weighing 10 to 20 pounds, frequently lift/move items weighing up to 35 pounds without assistance, and over 35 pounds with assistance from another worker or weight handling equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. WORKING CONDITIONS: Inspector is occasionally exposed to vibration. Inspector is frequently exposed to machine shop fabricating areas and their distinctive smells and solvents. Inspector may be exposed to mold release compounds, greases, oils, cutting, and/or hydraulic fluids from the machining/molding process. The noise level in the inspection areas is usually quiet; hearing protection is provided when noise levels are excessive. Safety glasses are required in machine shop fabricating area. Safety shoes are required in machine shop fabricating area and receiving warehouse areas. Most of the danger encountered in this position is from sharp edges of tools, equipment, and machinery. Exposed to possibility of cuts, bruises, and scrapes. Must be alert for production control (PCs) who route and deliver rotary wing aircraft components using roll lifts, forklifts near the inspection areas as well as Automated Ground Vehicles (AGVs).
