OverviewMammo TechnologistPerforms a variety of specialized technical tasks associated with the operation of x-ray and mammography related equipment to assist the radiologist in the detection of anatomical abnormalities. The technologist is primarily responsible for performing mammography studies. Utilizes innovative customer service techniques to provide a positive patient care experience for the patient and their family.

Acts professionally in all dealings with internal and external customers to promote a working environment that focuses on the patient experience and not operational rivalries or roadblocks to care.

Perform complex specialized tasks associated with the operation of x-ray and mammographic equipment and their related equipment in accordance with prescribed radiation safety procedures. Position patients for appropriate procedure using immobilization and protective equipment as necessary.

Assist physician with interventional imaging procedures, starting IV's, and injecting contrast, if applicable.

Perform the quality control functions related to mammography.

Evaluate radiographs for diagnostic quality obtaining additional images as needed.

Establishes and maintains lines of communication with all other staff members and Radiologist to insure an effective and harmonious working environment.

Communicates effectively with patients and their families about the procedure to be performed in order to obtain information and to offer reassurance.

Maintains awareness of and practices established radiation safety standards in carrying out duties.

May rotate shifts or be in an “on call” status as needed or directed by the organization.

Performs other duties as assigned for the needs of the organization.

QualificationsRequired Education and Experience

Education: Associates Degree, Allied Health or Radiologic Technology

Experience: Minimum of 2 years imaging experience

Required Licensure and Certifications

ARRT (R)(M) and MRT
