The Medical Assistant in Mohs Surgery at MD Anderson Cancer Center position provides patient care and customer service assistance to the ambulatory care patient, as delegated, and supports daily operations of the center.The ideal candidate will be a Certified or Registered Medical Assistant and have at least one year of experience with surgical procedures, a background in Mohs and or dermatology. Experience in sterilization and disinfection is a plus.Shift: Monday - Thursday 7:30am - 6pm (might have to work on Fridays occassionally)KEY FUNCTIONSAssists with patient examinations, treatments and procedures.

Prepares / stocks rooms and escorts patients to rooms.

Obtains vital signs and prepares patients for physician's care.

Documents in the medical record patient care entries and completed lab work.

Reviews and sorts incoming lab results and forwards reports for review.

Collects laboratory specimens and performs waived laboratory testing (such as finger stick glucose and EKG tests).

Provides transportation of patients for discharge or transfer to other areas in the hospital. Must position, lift and move patients as needed.

Cleans, stores, prepares and coordinates maintenance of medical equipment.

Maintains inventories of laboratory and medical supplies.

Processes all required paperwork. Instructs patients as to test preparations according to planned procedure.

Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATIONRequired : High school diploma/equivalent.Preferred : Graduate of an approved Medical Assistant program or US Military medical services training program.EXPERIENCERequired : One year of medical assistant experience.
