About the Position: This position is with the U.S. Army Sustainment Command, 407th AFSB, Logistics Readiness Center Maintenance Division located at Fort Cavazos. Responsibilities Troubleshoots, disassembles, cleans, flushes, repairs/replaces, overhauls, assembles, and installs engines, transmissions, transfer cases, axle assemblies, differentials, hydraulic systems, hydraulic and/or mechanical brake systems etc. Troubleshoots and repairs all types of failures in 6, 12, 24, 36, and 48-volt electrical systems. Breaks down, repairs, adjusts, or modifies complex systems and components Operates a forklift up to 50,000 pound capacity and motor vehicles up 25,000 Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) Performs a variety of repairs to tires and tubes to include: leak checks, buffing, hot and cold patch application, minor tube vulcanizing, installation of small boots and tubeless core patches. (1) Using testing, measurement, or diagnostic equipment such as dynameters, micrometers, calipers, depth gauges, pressure gauges etc.; 2) Troubleshooting repairs needed on a variety of heavy mobile equipment, systems, or assemblies; and 3) Operating equipment such as forklifts, cranes, trucks, etc. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Do The Work Of The position Without More Than Normal Supervision Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (Includes Blueprint Reading) Ability to Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, and Repair, etc. Technical Practices (Theoretical, Precise, Artistic) Troubleshooting Use of Measuring Instruments PHYSICAL EFFORT: Work requires constant standing, kneeling, crawling, laying, and walking on concrete floors. Required to lift, carry, and position objects weighing up to 40 pounds. Items weighing more than 40 pounds are normally lifted with assistance of another worker or with a mechanical device. Requires prolonged working in cramped, awkward, tiring and uncomfortable positions. May be required to work in restricted or confined spaces. Requires frequent bending, kneeling, stooping, reaching, stretching, and climbing on or under large vehicles. Some overhead work is required. May be required to work from ladders or work platforms at varying heights. Requires good hand, eye, and foot coordination in the manipulation of gears, pedals and steering wheel of fork lift, motor vehicle, and other equipment operation. WORKING CONDITIONS: Works inside and outside. Inside work areas are frequently inadequately heated and cooled. The incumbent is exposed to extreme temperature changes, drafts, chemical, and exhaust fumes. Incumbent is exposed to some inclement weather such as rain, snow, cold and freezing temperatures; and may be required to work in dirty, muddy, wet or icy areas when outdoors. May be required to work in awkward positions and cramped quarters for short periods of time. Frequently exposed to irritation or discomfort from dust, heat, cold, fumes, and from hard, damp floors or ground. Typically works with equipment systems and parts which are dirty, oily, or greasy. Frequently exposed to the possibility of receiving cuts, bumps, bruises, sprains, strains, electrical shock, skin irritation, eye damage, and hearing loss while repairing, positioning, and moving equipment. Often exposed to possibility of receiving burns and skin irritations from acids, fluids and lubricants. Working conditions are considered in the evaluation of the job and do not meet criteria for compensation by environmental or hazard pay.
