You will use your experience and energy to continually advance the state of the art in compression silicon architecture in server, client, and Xbox devices. You are expected to work with limited direction, pay attention to detail, and be able to provide technical clarity to your cross-team collaborators and project leads/management. Develop architecture specifications for compression hardware modules.

We work with both existing standards and novel techniques.

Invent and evaluate new encoding algorithms suitable for HW implementations.

Work with other architects to define, document and implement encoding/decoding algorithms for compression.

Work with implementation teams to realize the architectures in hardware.

Generate architecture test vectors for HW verification.

Develop bit-accurate C models for HW verification.

QualificationsRequired QualificatiosnBS/MS in Electrical, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, or Computer Science or relevant work experience

8 years of relevant computer architecture engineering experience.

2+ years microarchitecture experience including owning and creating a design module

Demonstratable C/C coding experience

Preferred Qualifications:The position is not limited to those with specific domain knowledge. Rather a candidate with the ability to quickly learn and contribute where needed is preferred.

Experience with RTL development of hardware modules

Experience working on hardware architectures for data or video compression.

Experience designing/micro-architecting data or video compression architectures.

Experience working on aspects of compression codec processing including transform/quantization, entropy coding etc.

Understanding of common algorithmic building blocks for both lossy and lossless compression algorithms.

Knowledge of H-264, HEVC.

Knowledge of digital signal processing and information theory and its applications to compression.

Experience developing C/C bit accurate models for hardware verification.

Experience developing hardware video codecs.

Experience evaluating compression efficiency.
