Research Assistant I (Myeloma Tissue Bank)MISSION STATEMENTThe mission of The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center is to eliminate cancer in Texas, the nation, and the world through outstanding programs that integrate patient care, research and prevention, and through education for undergraduate and graduate students, trainees, professionals, employees and the public.SUMMARYJOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIESPatients Participation ManagementScreens new and potential patients in the clinic for participation in tissue or serum bank protocols. Obtains informed consent forms from patients for minimal risk procedures and documents consent process in patient's medical records. Registers patients in CORe/ONCORE and other relevant databases.Sample collection, toxicity reporting, and quality assuranceAssists in managing research samples or data as needed. This includes working with many different departments. Ability to effectively communicate with these departments in order to collect data and prevent protocol deviations or violations. Facilitate the transfer of biospecimens from/to outside institutions for patients consented to the Myeloma Tissue Bank protocol and/or other IRB-approved research protocols by established SOPs and Material Transfer Agreements (MTAs).Regulatory & AdministrativeCollaborates with multidisciplinary teams individually and in group meetings, providing feedback on lab workflows and SOPs. Works with directors and members of the Myeloma Tissue Bank lab team to resolve problems encountered in executing work duties and assist in creating sample shipping instructions for new protocols or amendments if applicable. Ensures processes and procedures are implemented and in keeping with the guiding principles of the Institutional Tissue Bank.Inventory Control & Data ManagementMaintains accurate information on sample transactions as well as supplies inventory for sample collection. Generates sample.
