SUMMARYThe primary purpose of the Coordinator, Research Data position is to provide administrative and patient care services for the coordination of research studies. Collaborates with the research team and the principal investigator in current protocol requirements and by collecting protocol-specific information from physicians, fellows, nurses, patients, family members, local caregivers and other utilizing a computer database and/or case report forms. In addition, he/she participates in retrieval and analysis of protocol specific data and or disease treatment related information. Impacts the coordination of patient data for research studies.JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIESKnow your businessDevelops and maintains system for controlling paper flow for protocols and hospital policies, including records of surgery and pathology. Develops and maintains databases for collection of research data. Maintains schedules for timely submissions of all grant data. Assists in the preparation of information and report for grant submissions. Responsible for completion of data forms, dosimeter, films, treatment records, surgery and pathology information. Controls the randomization of patients and ensures follow-up appointments. Acts as liaison with patients, families, physicians and other personnel. Orients facility personnel. Maintains contact with other institutions participating in studies and coordinates all data.Reads and becomes familiar with protocol specific guidelines and general procedures for caring for the patient with melanoma. Collects study data by visually reading patient records and outside documentation and/or interviewing physicians, fellows, nurses, patients, family members, local caregivers, laboratories, and others in face-to-face encounters or by telephone. Verifies, enters, and maintains information in computer database via computer and/or by writing on case report forms.Consults and communicates with the principal investigator, research nurse, other departments, and team regarding new and ongoing studies. Requires the ability to gather appropriate information and to determine the appropriate information to report. Requires the ability to move from assigned office to clinic and/or hospital or conference areas.Know your business of your department/Institute Maintains a level of professional expertise and credibility through attendance at both institutional and outside conferences and continuing education programs. Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills when contacting other institutions and agencies by phone, computer generated reports or face-to-face contacts.Able to provide and review study-specific pertinent information to physician, fellows, nurses, and other members of the team for prompt enrollment of patients in protocols. Able to register patients on protocols by computer or telephone.Change Agent Assist with data analysis of research studies. Assist in identifying patients needing blood or other research samples. Demonstrates competency in performing routine venipuncture for collection of blood samples and EKG testing. Processes blood and other samples for storage, if necessary. Prepares and ships frozen samples, as indicated. Assists research nurses, as indicated.Other Duties Other duties as assigned.EDUCATION:Required: High school diploma or equivalent.Preferred degree: Bachelor's degree.EXPERIENCE:Required: Two years of related experience.
