The Clinical Nurse Specialist functions independently and collaboratively as an expert clinician, educator, consultant, and researcher in nursing practice. The Clinical Nurse Specialist is a professional nurse with in-depth scientific knowledge, technical expertise, skill and competency.

What You Will Do In Your Role:

Consults with physicians and staff in defining problems, identifying available internal and external educational resources and selecting educational options. Provides feedback related to the effectiveness of learning on patient outcomes.

Participates in the research process as principle investigator, collaborator, or evaluator. Integrates research into nursing practice, develops staff members’ knowledge and skills in the research process, fosters the use of systematic evaluative research, and evaluates outcomes in line with evidence-based practice.

Serves as a change agent at the organizational, facility and department level. Facilitates the initiation of, adoption of, and adaptation to change and influences the necessary policies and procedures.

Manages overall program activities, including human and monetary resources. Ensures that educational activities are congruent with the organization’s mission, vision and goals. Modelsbehaviors that reflect participation and leadership in activities within the organization, such as serving in key roles on committees, councils, and administrative teams.

Serves as a model in the role of educator, facilitator, change agent, consultant, researcher and leader to promote professional growth of peers.

Assesses patient needs and works with nursing staff in discharge planning and formulating nursing diagnoses, care plans, and patient/family education plans.

Qualifications

What qualifications you will need:

Master’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited program.

Minimum of 5 years clinical experience in acute care nursing

Previous experience teaching

Demonstrated leadership skills

Current Registered Nurse License in the State of Texas or Multi-State Compact License (Employees with RN Compact License are required to obtain Texas RN License within 90 days of hire date)

Current license to practice professional nursing in the State of Texas CNS or APN

Current American Heart Association BLS Certification
