DescriptionAmazon Logistics (AMZL) ORBIT Team is seeking an experienced Senior Research Scientist to identify, create, develop and integrate innovative solutions and programs that lead to improvements in our last mile delivery network. This position will lead the scientific development and execution of new worldwide initiatives designed to improve overall efficiency and meet the ever-growing demand for last mile capacity. The candidate will have strong data mining and modeling skills and is comfortable facilitating ideas and working from concept through to execution. The role also requires close partnership with other scientists and engineers to review and improve overall model design proposals. The candidate will also have strong interpersonal skills to communicate and interact with leaders effectively while driving expert feedback to customers.Key job responsibilitiesKey job responsibilitiesAs a Research Scientist, your responsibilities will be:

Work closely with other scientists and engineers to review and improve your model design proposals.

You understand basic data structures, algorithms, model evaluation techniques, performance, and optimality tradeoffs.

You follow engineering and scientific method best practices. You get your designs, models, and code reviewed. You test your code and models thoroughly

Be active in the community, participating in science education/growth activities.

Keep up to date with scientific development in the field

Independently innovating, creating, and iterating ML solutions for given business problems.

Experience in mentoring junior scientists

About the teamAbout the teamThe AMZL ORBIT (Operations Reporting, Business Intelligence, and Technology) team works as an integral part of AMZL worldwide to ensure that its business intelligence analytics and science needs are met. By providing information, insight, and decision support, we strive to enable success of all parts of AMZL. Our stakeholder set includes senior management, station operations, DSP management, Flex management, long-term planning, Ops technology (Voice of the Delivery Station, Voice of the Customer), network planning, and pretty much every BI and Ops teams in AMZL. This team also builds and support technologies to facilitate high-volume data analysis and reporting. The team maintains and improves metric reporting and AMZL's content in PerfectMile. This team also support publication of WBR decks across NA, EU and JP. We also support a limited set of reports in Tableau and QuickSight dedicated for science and analytical purposesBasic Qualifications

3+ years of investigating the feasibility of applying scientific principles and concepts to business problems and products experience

PhD, or Master's degree and 5+ years of quantitative field research experience

Experience with big data technologies such as AWS, Hadoop, Spark, Pig, Hive etc.

Experience communicating qualitative research methods and findings to non-qualitative researchers

Preferred Qualifications

Experience converting research studies into tangible real-world changes

Experience with discrete and continuous optimization methodologies and algorithms

The base pay for this position ranges from $143,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $247,600/year in our highest geographic market.
