A career in our United States National Tax Practice State and Local Tax practice, within United States National Tax services, will provide you with the opportunity to help our clients gain valuable insight into emerging tax issues and trends, as well helping them implement successful tax strategies in response to legislative, federal, and judicial tax developments that will impact their business. You'll help our clients with United States federal income tax considerations primarily related to foreign persons' activities in the United States, United States persons' activities outside the United States, cross border mergers and acquisitions, financial transactions, and insurance companies.

Our team helps our clients address their tax and tax accounting requirements related to state and local tax laws. You'll focus on recommending solutions that support clients overall business objectives and provide support so that their filing positions are consistent with good business practices and with the states' applicable tax laws and rules.

Additional Educational Requirements:

Other business related fields may be considered (such as, Business Administration/Management, Economics, Finance, International Business, Management, Quantitative Finance). Preferred Knowledge/Skills:

Demonstrates a thorough level of abilities with, and/or a proven record of success as both an individual contributor and team member, identifying and addressing client needs including:
  • Demonstrating considerable knowledge of complex, high-value, income tax issues, consulting clients on a variety of state and local tax issues ranging from tax planning, restructuring, due diligence, audit defense, audit management, and compliance work for companies with presence in multiple taxing jurisdictions;
  • Demonstrating prior experience working at a state agency, working in the federal income tax area, experience with property and sales tax issues would be a plus;
  • Demonstrating considerable technical skills in all state and local tax matters, including tax planning, consulting, compliance, restructuring, controversy and audit defense; and,
  • Demonstrating experience identifying and addressing client needs, actively participating in client discussions and meetings, communicating a broad range of Firm services, managing engagements including preparing concise, accurate documents, and balancing project economics management with the occurrence of unanticipated issues.

Demonstrated experience as a team leader by:
  • Creating a positive environment by monitoring workloads of the team while meeting client expectations and respecting the work-life quality of team members;
  • Providing candid, meaningful feedback in a timely manner; and,
  • Keeping leadership informed of progress and issues.

As a tax technical professional, demonstrates ability to research business and industry trends to develop a point of view to leverage in assisting with proposals, considering opportunities across multiple lines of service.

Experimentation with automation & digitization in a professional services environment including but not limited to:
  • Innovating through new and existing technologies, along with experimenting with digitization solutions;
  • Working with large, complex data sets to build models and leverage data visualization tools; and,
  • Exposure to pricing, client value and the negotiation process - including reviewing contracts and finding opportunities to introduce new pricing options.
