- The main function of a systems administrator is to install, configure, and support an organization's local area network (LAN), wide area network (WAN), and Internet system or a segment of a network system
- A typical systems administrator is responsible for monitoring network to ensure network availability to all system users and perform necessary maintenance to support network availability
- Sr. Systems Admin Sr. supports client GT Systems area by provisioning the installation/configuration, as well as perform operation and maintenance of systems hardware, software, and related infrastructure
- Additionally, ensures system hardware, operating systems, software systems, and related procedures adhere to organizational goals
- This position requires employees to work non-traditional/late hours during maintenance, upgrades and support
- Installation of new and rebuilding of existing servers, configuration of hardware, peripherals, services, systems settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements
- Carrying out systems planning through by installing, configuring and testing of PC/server hardware and software
- Maintaining system performance by performing system monitoring and analysis, and performance tuning; troubleshooting system hardware, software, networks and operating and system management systems; designing and running system load/stress testing; escalating problems to vendor
- Establishing and test disaster recovery policies and procedures and maintain support documentation
- Supporting users by providing application support
- Upgrading system by conferring with vendors and services; developing, testing, evaluating, and installing enhancements and new software
- Applying OS patches and upgrades on a regular basis in accordance to Vulnerability Management Assessment
- Configure/add new services as necessary
- Responsible for keeping current and correct inventory of Software and Hardware for production and test environments for client GT IT Assets Management process
- Performing analysis of user's needs and recommends appropriate systems solutions
- Communication with different vendors for equipment purchases, contracts, support and deployments
- Works closely with management and project management to maintain Audit Requirements and documentation up-to-date
- Maintain and administer computer networks and related computing environments including computer hardware, systems software, applications software, and all configurations
- Perform data backups and disaster recovery operations
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve hardware, software, or other network and system problems, and replace defective components when necessary
- Configure, monitor and maintain email applications or virus protection software
- Operate master consoles to monitor the performance of computer systems and networks, and to coordinate computer network access and use
- Plan, coordinate, and implement network security measures to protect data, software, and hardware
- Associate degree in computer related field required
- 6 to 8 years' experience required
- Vmware - 6 years minimum
- Active directory - 6 years minimum
- SAN administration - 6 years minimum
- Windows Server - 6 years minimum
- Systems Administrator - 6 years minimum
- Verbal and written communication skills, problem solving skills, customer service and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and manage one's time
- Basic mentoring skills necessary to provide support and constructive performance feedback
- Ability to identify, interpret, and evaluate system and network requirements
- Knowledge of computer hardware and software as it related to LAN/WAN
- Bachelor's degree in computer science preferred
