Title: Systems Engineer

Location: Austin, TX (95% work from home - more onsite to start, but more remote going forward)

The Systems Engineer is responsible for the implementation and administration of server hardware, operating systems, and core infrastructure components, both on-premises and in the cloud. We are looking for someone who exhibits a positive example to peers and is able to collaborate with others to complete objectives. Plays a key role in the service and support organization and enables business units to reach their goals by supporting various projects and by maintaining the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of IT services. Helps to define technology standards including policies and procedures.

Infrastructure Management:
  • Responsible for administering infrastructure environments including VMware, SolarWinds O365, and Cisco UCS.
  • Deep understanding of Active Directory and Active Directory management.
  • Strong understanding of systems lifecycle management and ownership of infrastructure hardware including standalone servers, blade environments, and hyper-converged systems.
  • Proactive ownership of multiple SAN (Cohesity/Pure/Nutanix) environments to include firmware upgrades, environment expansions, system migrations, and data replications.
  • Improve productivity in delivery orchestration, proactive monitoring, self-healing automation, and operations validations.
  • Solve problems related to critical services and build automation to proactively detect and prevent their re-occurrences.
  • Work successfully with vendors to lead upgrades and troubleshoot complex technical issues.
  • Leverage scripting and automation tools to improve efficiency and quality.

Infrastructure Cloud Services:
  • Support a cloud first strategy including application cloud readiness assessments, on-premises to cloud migrations, and cloud proof-of-concepts.
  • Maintain and deploy cloud services including SaaS, PaaS, and IaaS solutions.

  • Participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation schedule.
  • Stay abreast of current technologies.
  • Find opportunities for ongoing professional growth and learning.
  • Proactively identify ways to support team goals and recommend solutions.
  • Effectively manage time and resources. This may include leveraging resources from other groups and coordinating testing efforts of other departments.
  • Executes basic project planning and reporting.

What you've got:
  • 3-5 years of experience in server operating systems management with an enterprise environment.
  • 3-5 years of experience working with hardware integration, virtual environments, and data storage.
  • Experience administering Office 365.
  • Ability to engage in problem-solving skills to help identify and resolve issues with minimal supervision.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Microsoft Project, and Visio preferred.
  • Must be bondable.
  • Proven ability to think creatively and learn new technologies rapidly.
  • Proven history of building relationships with both technical and non-technical teams quickly and effectively.
  • Demonstrated excellence in providing superb customer service required.
  • Excellent analytical skills required.
  • Strong communication skills (written, verbal, and listening) required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of data standards (both data exchange and storage) highly preferred.
  • Must be able to provide presentations in group settings in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Ability to coach and mentor team members.

Preferred Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology or related field.
  • 2+ years of demonstrated experience managing cloud environments (Azure, AWS, Google Cloud).
  • Experience in cloud infrastructure projects with hands on migration expertise to public clouds such as AWS and Azure.
  • Experience working in a Credit Union or financial services industry.
  • Certification in VMware or Microsoft.
  • Certification in Azure or AWS.
