Job Description: JOB DESCRIPTION

The general responsibilities of a Telecomm Planner/Designer - 1: Candidates for this position are considered entry-level. Duties include but are not limited to coordination, planning, maintenance and design of ISP/OSP fiber-optic and/or copper cable solutions for both overhead and underground applications. This includes field surveying, development of job sketches using Computer Aided Drafting programs which includes GIS applications with ArcFM, coordination of electric and/or gas construction projects with internal and external customers as they pertain to telecommunications facilities, development of construction job packages specifying material, equipment and labor requirements for each job, resolving easement issues, acquiring permits, coordinating with internal and external customers to facilitate civic improvements, decommissions, pole replacements and additions for new construction, and performing administrative tasks including filling out forms, database entry and documents. Also, includes the design and development of inside cable plant, communications rooms, rack space and shelving layouts, and facility drawings.

• Conducts field surveys of communications cable infrastructure to include both fiber optic and copper cable plant.

• Coordinates electric and/or gas construction projects with internal and external customers as they pertain to telecommunications facilities.

• Resolves easement issues, acquires permits and performs administrative tasks including filling out of the associated forms and documents.

• Reviews overhead engineering job packages/drawings on how they impact any adjustments needed to the telecommunications physical cable plant. Both fiber optic and copper cable plant.

• Uses Computer Aided Drafting programs which includes GIS applications with ArcFM. Maintains the ARC/GIS system in reference to fiber optic network, radio systems, facilities, tower infrastructure and other related communications systems and facilities.

• Updates and maintains existing Bentley Microstation drawings. Maintains a centralized depository of drawing documentation for both engineering and technical staff.

• Creates construction packages in GIS and Bentley Microstation CAD programs. Develops packages to include specifying materials, equipment and labor for each construction packages.

• Update additions moves and changes on existing engineering department drawings.

• Attends City of San Antonio and surrounding areas Civic Improvement meetings. Coordinates changes as they apply to communications infrastructure.

• Coordinates site meetings with neighboring utilities to develop and approve the completion of needed infrastructure adjustments.

• Designs and develops inside cable plant, communications rooms and facility drawings.

• Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED equivalent

• Valid Class C Texas Driver's License

• Must have favorable driving record

Preferred Qualifications:

• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite including word processing, spreadsheets, database, presentation, electronic mail and calendar.

• Experience with overhead and/or underground communications pole attachment and/or conduit procedures and requirements
