This job is an emerging discipline within the IT industry. It focuses specifically on how user interfaces and flow of applications should be set up to support a positive user experience with the application.

User Experience designer

Work Location: Houston, TXJob Summary/DescriptionCLI requires contract technical skills in user experience (UX) design to support long-term and short-term improvements to the CLI Engage platform.

Job Duties/Responsibilities/Functions (including but not limited to)• UX assessment• Gap analysis: Conduct inventory and assessment of the CLI Engage platform. This inventory would include reviewing and updating a conceptual map of the application for each of the applications and systems.

This includes 4 applications across 5 systems.

o Engage assessment: updates to system to support users to conduct their jobs through their workflows; review reports for interpretability (layout); recommendations for data visualization for teachers, parents, district userso Texas Rising Star: users with multiple roles have trouble navigating the system across their roleso TECPDS: data entry process for entering records, TECPDS report layout for interpretability (layout, filtering)• Research: Conduct user research for high priority gaps in order to make recommendations about short and long-term improvements to system. Identify roles to conduct research on. Collaborate with subject matter experts and product managers to identify samples of roles, decide on research format, conduct research, summarize findings, and review findings with SMEs and leadership.• Report: Provide report of recommendations of updates to the Engage platform of the scope identified. The report should include the following:o Gap analysis findingso Updated user interface mapo Presentation of research findingso Identified short-term improvementso Identified long-term improvements• New functionality: Review user interface impacts of new functionality during requirements gathering phase. Provide design recommendations.• Departmental Projects: Provide consulting services for departmental projects on an as-needed basis.

Deliverables:• Administrative Meeting to review and update project plan for accomplishing work in agreed up on timeframeo Project plan documentation• Monthly invoices• Weekly timesheet for time worked on the projects• Submission of any change requests in writing and agreed upon by both parties• Gap analysis• Schedule and conduct meetings with subject matter experts to understand user experience in existing platform.• Review how to and implementation guide material.• Document recommendations for improvements to support documentation• Update user interface map• Create documentation of short and long-term recommendations for improvement• Schedule and review findings with SMEs and leadership• Research• Identify samples for research• Create research plan with SMEs documenting:o Approacho Constraintso Scheduleo Outcome documentation• Documentation of research findings• Schedule and present research findings with SMEs and leadership• Report• Create draft of report of findings which includes the following:o Summary of the scope of the functionality reviewedo Updated user interface mapo Methodology of researcho Findings of researcho Short-term recommendations for improvemento Long-term recommendations for improvement• Review of draft with SMEs and leadership points of contact• Revision of report based on findings and the following criteriao Copy edited: no spelling, grammatical errorso Consistent format using CLI approved brandingo Change log of how feedback was incorporated into final draft• Final draft of report
