Position Summary: An VP FP&A Engineer will participate in design, build out, and maintenance of a distributed, scalable and resilient financial forecasting platform for Financial Planning and Analytics (FP&A). One of the immediate tasks of this role will be to help build out the Ben Financial Forecast model, which is responsible for projecting the valuation of Ben equity units, under various scenarios and will be used in our discussions with rating agencies, underwriters and investors. The model includes strategic transaction analysis, financial planning and analysis, cash flow liquidity and capital management, asset and liability management, risk management and stress testing. Longer term, this Engineer will own other financial forecasting, scenario design and analysis models, with opportunities to invent new technologies in a fast-paced startup environment.

Essential Functions:

  • Build classes for the revenue and expense forecasting of various legal entities at Ben, that ultimately produce monthly, quarterly and annual forecasts of the income statement, balance sheet and cashflow statement
  • Build market data and books-and-records objects for feeding actuals for Ben financial statements, and other systematic inputs into the projected forecasting model
  • Build GUIs for end users to easily access and drill down on data through customizable and reproducible reports
  • Design and implement a low-friction SDLC that meets audit requirements while ensuring speedy time-to-market
  • Build systems for monitoring data accuracy through automated data validation and anomaly detection software
  • Build a testing platform for running unit tests and user acceptance tests on models and data sets, with a built-in escalation workflow for failing tests
  • This role will be one of two model owners for each model developed, accountable for "blessing" the economics and implementation of each model, answerable to auditors, regulators and any other due diligence process in the company

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies:

  • 5+ years of experience in Object Oriented Analysis and Design and testing best practices.
  • Knowledge of accounting, including line items of the income statement, balance sheet, and cashflow statement
  • Good understanding of distributed systems
  • Must become competent with Beacon platform, including Gromit graph dependency object-oriented programming
  • Strong technical skills, analytical mindset, self-motivated, independent, creative, can solve interesting and sometimes difficult technical problems under time pressure and resource constraints
  • Commercially focused; seeks to understand the requirements and how they will benefit our clients, stakeholders, and business
  • Experience with all stages in the software development lifecycle: inception, analysis, design, review, testing, and deployment
  • Good sense of user interaction and usability design to provide an intuitive, seamless end user experience.
  • Experience building and sustaining long-term relationships with clients and cross-functional colleagues in a diverse organization
  • Judgment to prioritize and escalate issues in order to influence objectives and outcomes.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience working directly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders

Qualifications:

  • PhD or Masters in STEM field
  • 5+ years of experience in Object Oriented Analysis and Design and testing best practices.
  • 5+ years programming in Python
  • Experience in an enterprise financial quantitative modeling platform at a major bank or asset management firm preferred, such as, for example, Beacon Gromit classes, or SecDb UFO programming at Goldman Sachs, or Athena at J.P. Morgan
  • Experience as a strat or technologist in the finance industry preferred
  • Experience building treasury, finance and accounting forecasting models preferred
  • Experience in Sybase IQ and SQL preferred
