Position InformationProposed Faculty Rank Assistant Professor (Lecturer)Department 00078 - School of MusicCity Salt Lake City, UTTrack Non Tenure TrackNew Position to Begin July 1, 2025DetailsDUTIES :1) Teach undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral level vocal diction courses in English, French, German, and Italian (Russian, Spanish, and Czech, etc, if expertise allows); 2) Teach undergraduate, master’s and doctoral level vocal literature courses covering, at minimum, the baroque to the present; 3) Teach diction for choral and symphonic conducting students; 4) Provide individual coaching to performance students enrolled in the Individual Coaching course; 5) Recruit and supervise applicable graduate research projects as assigned; 6) Accompany faculty recitals and performances as time and expertise allow; 7) Contribute to the coordination and advancement of the Voice Area curriculum; 8) Serve on committees, including graduate supervisory committees; and 9) perform other appropriate School, College, University, and professional service. The candidate appointed to this position will report to the Director of the School of Music.QUALIFICATIONS :1) A master’s degree is required, a doctorate is preferred; (2) Demonstrated evidenceof successful teaching and coaching at the university and/or professional level; (3) A successful and varied experience in collaborative piano with emphasis in voice partnered with a strong history of performance; and (4) Impeccable language diction skills and knowledge of IPA as applied to all the sung languages. We are seeking a resourceful, creative, innovative, and accomplished pedagogue and performer who demonstrates a willingness to support a robust and growing vocal program seeking to retain and attract high-caliber students both nationally and internationally. The ideal candidate is an experienced vocal coach with extensive knowledge of a variety of vocal repertoire including opera, song, and musical theater, and has demonstrated a strong, national performing reputation in the field. The candidate who fills this position will work closely with applied voice professors in support of undergraduate and graduate student recital preparations and will function as an active member of the voice faculty.
