Job Description:This position performs technically accurate electroencephalographic (brain wave) testing and collects other data pertinent to the interpretation of test results under the direction of a registered EEG Technologist or the EEG Laboratory Medical Director. Shift Details: Full Time- 36 hours/week- 12 hr shifts

Location: EEG/Sleep Lab - McKay Dee Hospital

Additional Details: Shift- 5:00pm-5:30am, Tuesdays/ Wednesdays/ Fridays- On-call one weekend a month. On-call rotating Holidays.

Essential Job Duties

Performs technically accurate electroencephalographic (brain wave) testing that is free from electrical disturbances (artifacts) that may cause unreliable studies. Collects and documents data pertinent to the interpretation of test results including all remarkable events. Relays concerns to physicians.

Provides and facilitates patient and family education by reviewing medical records and interviewing patients to obtain pertinent history and explaining testing procedures. Documents patient response to teaching and instruction and obtains any additional information required. Key partnerships include: patients, families, providers, management and other members of the interdisciplinary team.

Performs biologic and physiologic quality controls (Biocals) to ensure delivery of quality patient care.

Maintains equipment and troubleshoots hardware and software malfunctions to ensure proper performance. Maintains a clean, safe environment in preparation for patient care.

During the delivery of services, uses supplies and resources efficiently and effectively.

Completes billing forms for tests in an accurate and timely manner to ensure proper payment and reimbursement.

Integrates regulatory, legal, and ethical requirements into practice to ensure compliance with regulatory standards. Practices within scope of Intermountain and facility policies and procedures and understands legal implications of care delivery.

Under the direction of the EEG System Manager and/or the EEG System QA Coordinator, teaches and shares knowledge and expertise with trainees, students, new employees, and other hospital staff as well as patients and families in the provision of EEG procedures.

Minimum Requirements

Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) for healthcare providers.

Experience in a healthcare environment through work or education.

Effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.

Effective teamwork skills in stressful circumstances.

Experience working in a team-oriented environment, as well as working independently.

Experience using word processing, spreadsheets, and email applications.

Must be willing to take call for EEG on-call rotation and respond/arrive within the department's designated timeframe.

Preferred Requirements

Six months of EEG clinical experience.

Experience using neurodiagnostic equipment.

Current or prospective candidate of an ABRET recognized program.

Physical Requirements:

Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, sterile indicator tags, colors, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies

Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.

Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment and instruments with precision and accuracy. This includes computer use and typing for documentation, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.

Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.

Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc).

May be expected to stand in a stationary position with personal protective equipment for an extended period of time.
