Prepares patients for examinations and diagnostic procedures according to departmental procedures.
Obtains and records patient temperatures, pulse rates, blood pressure, weight and height measurements, review of medications, allergies, past medical history, and places patient on pulse oximetry and cardiac monitors as per department protocols, or as directed.
Reports and records all observed or verbalized patient concerns and changes in condition to a member of the nursing or physician staff.
Performs specialty skills and delegated procedures under the direct supervision of a licensed staff member.
Accompanies providers examining patients in examination rooms as needed and/or assists physicians/licensed staff with procedures.
Performs delegated procedures under the direct supervision of a licensed staff member.
Accompanies providers examining patients in examination rooms as needed and/or assists physicians/licensed staff with procedures.
Attends and completes mandatory department in-services and trainings.
May perform phlebotomy in accordance with department procedures, and physician orders, after specialized training.
May clean and stock areas as needed.
May perform POC testing in accordance with ambulatory clinic and physician orders, after specialized training.
May work with manager/designee to reconcile unit charges.
May assist in orienting new employees regarding the clerical functions of the unit.
May schedule patient appointments.
May admit, discharge, and transfer per unit standard.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
Demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills.
Demonstrated proficiency in reporting department's baseline skills.
Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit.
Demonstrated knowledge of the principles of life span growth and development and the ability to assess data regarding the patient's status and provide care as described in the department's policies and procedures manual.
QualificationsQualifications Licenses Required
Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system. The eCredential is to be obtained within 30 days of hire.
Current EMT Certification in the State of Utah.
Additional license requirements as determined by the hiring department.Qualifications (Preferred)Preferred
One year of health-related experience.
ACLS may be required by some departments.
PALS may be required by some departments.
