PURPOSESThis position interfaces with system-wide teams to develop and promote system-wide design standards for the organizations education materials.

Scope Essential Job Duties
  • Graphic Design: Designs and produces patient and provider education materials, including conceptual design, aesthetics, visual design and layout of the project in various media (publications, brochures, covers, posters, booklets, illustration, logos, and electronic media). Arranges layout based upon knowledge of graphic design principles and aesthetic design concepts. Specifies creative detail including layout, finished size, arrangement of illustrative material, and style and size of type. Organizes and plans specifications for multiple projects to meet and maintain project timelines. Makes timely and informed decisions to keep projects on track within print specifications and within budget. Provides creative solutions to problems in presenting information and instructional design. Maintains standards of corporate identity and branding for published materials. Establishes look and feel for system-wide patient and provider education pieces. Ensures consistency across same topics or type of materials. Maintains design quality across all products for both print and electronic projects. Accurately executes all projects. Works with writers to make corrections and revisions as necessary from review teams.
  • Illustration and Photography: Selects and purchases stock photography. Takes digital photographs of people, places, and materials as needed. Creates line illustrations and information graphics for layouts. Determines style of artwork and photographs for publications. Determines color palette and style of graphics used in pieces. Creates, produces, and edits Adobe Illustrator drawings, graphs, tables.
  • Electronic Development: Designs and helps guide the direction of electronic education resource development on the intra- and Internet (.net, .org).
  • Print Management: Obtains price quotes from various printers by providing specifications for print project. Collaborates with Clinical Education manager and others to weigh costs associated with different production methods and determine cost effective ways to produce materials. Checks press proofs for technical and color accuracy and then approve. Conducts press checks to ensure quality and correctness in printing.
  • Leadership: Oversees photo shoots and freelance illustrators as needed. Serves as design consultant for other system-wide initiatives with important educational components or needs (e.g., e-learning, patient education council, health literacy, patient safety, public relations,etc.).
  • Acts as a

    subject matter expert and resource for others. Stays current with the latest industry, style, and graphic trends - including system technology. Maintains technical knowledge by attending design workshops; reviewing professional publications and participating in professional societies.
  • Minimum Requirements:
    • Bachelor's degree in graphic design, or a communications-related field. Education must be obtained through an accredited institution. Degree will be verified.
    • Five years of progressive graphic design experience in roles requiring a comprehensive knowledge of graphic design principles and production methods with a solid understanding of print production process (conventional and digital print processes).
    • Experience in a role requiring strong layout and design skills for print and web, the demonstrated ability to take work from concept to print and produce work that meets project vision, exceptional organizational skills with an appreciation for content-driven design, excellent visual and conceptual problem-solving skills, including the ability to create a variety of solutions for a given design problem and creativity, flexibility, and attention to detail.
    • Experience in a role requiring the demonstrated proficiency using Adobe InDesign or QuarkXpress, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe Acrobat.
    • Project management experience - managing multiple projects and timelines.
    • Experience using word processing, spreadsheet, database, internet and e-mail and scheduling applications.
    • Experience in a role requiring effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.

    Preferred Qualifications
    • Master's degree in a design-related field.
    • Design experience in a healthcare or educational environment.
    • Experience with Illustration.
    • Web design skills with an understanding of Web browser's technical capabilities, screen sizes, Web-related design / production constraints, color theory and, color management on the Web.
    • Experience designing and developing computer-based-training modules and other interactive web content.

    Education:
    • Bachelor's degree in graphic design, or a communications-related field. Education must be obtained through an accredited institution. Degree will be verified.
