Job Description: Under the direction of nursing leadership, the Health Unit Coordinator facilitates unit organization and patient care by assisting in the coordination of patient, nursing, physician, and other health care provider office and clerical activities.Job EssentialsPatient Care Support Activities:Assists with admission, discharge, and transfer of patients.

Answer patient call lights.

Schedules tests and treatments as ordered.

May provide access control to visitor entrance to secure units.

May also be responsible for telemetry duties.

When working on a clinical unit, may be required to take medications from the delivery system to the RN.

Clerical Activities:Answers unit telephones and disseminates information appropriately.

Processes, organizes, files and maintains patient and unit records.

Transcribes physician orders.

Acts as unit receptionist.

May organize, stock and maintain supplies on the unit.

Collaboration:Performs functions delegated by nursing manager and charge nurse.

Demonstrate effective teamwork, prioritization, communication, and organization.

Provides excellent customer service when responding to patient/family requests, physicians, nursing and other ancillary services.

Additional Details: Entry Rate: $16.00Shift: Rotating schedule days/nights, weekends and holidays possible.Minimum Qualifications Clerical or customer service experience.

Preferred Qualifications Experience as a secretary in a hospital.

Experience using electronic medical records

Experience with word processing software.

Basic understanding of medical terminology.

Physical Requirements: Ongoing need for employee to see to utilize a wide variety of information including organizing and completing documentation and forms, accessing and entering computer information, and identify needs and emergencies.and -

Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.and -

Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate computers and type information, handle documents and files, and retrieve equipment and supplies.and -
