The Movement Disorders division seeks a health educator to conduct community outreach and education programs, needs assessments, evaluate programs, provide support to local PD support groups, and assist in facilitating PD and caregiver support groups. The health educator would also be responsible for development of outreach program for Atypical Parkinsonism, and Huntington Disease, this may include support groups, education conferences and other activities determined by needs assessment. This position will work with neurologists, nurses and social workers to determine the programs and activities that will best meet the needs of the community this may include, fall prevention, exercise, stress management and caregiver coping strategies.As a patient-focused organization, the University of Utah Health Sciences exists to enhance the health and well-being of people through patient care, research and education. Assesses health education needs using appropriate assessment tools; including using primary and secondary data sources.

Designs and implements health programs in accordance with evidence-based strategies.

Evaluates usefulness and impact of health education programs.

Provides information to patients and the general public while maintaining patient confidentiality.

Attends conferences and classes and reads literature to learn of new developments in the area of interest.

Collaborates with other offices, departments, and agencies.

Assists in coordinating outreach programs.

Purchases or coordinates the preparation of educational materials.

Recruits and trains volunteers.

May participate with committees or organizations whose purpose supports the health education program.

Ability to demonstrate entry level competence in the 7 Areas of Responsibilities for Health Education or 10 Essential Functions of Public Health.Health Educator II: Candidate must have a BS in health promotion or related field, and four or more years of health education experience or equivalency (2 years related work experience may be substituted for 1 year of education). Must also possess and maintain certification as a CHES , MCHES , or CPH . Ability to demonstrate working-level professional knowledge in the 7 Areas of Responsibilities for Health Education or 10 Essential Functions of Public Health.Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills required.Training in a specific health area may be preferred.This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated requirements.
