Vermont Electric Cooperative (VEC) is seeking a skilled Manager of System Operations to join our team in Johnson, Vermont. This critical role directs all aspects of VEC's 24/7 System Operations Center, ensuring dependable service reliability for our 33,000 members across Northern Vermont. The ideal candidate will lead by example, embodying our Rules of Engagement and commitment to safe, affordable, and reliable energy services.
The Manager of System Operations oversees the day-to-day operations of our utility's distribution system. This role involves close collaboration with internal and external parties to maintain system reliability and compliance with regional, national, and international standards. The manager will lead a team responsible for monitoring workflow, dispatching personnel, and coordinating communication for transmission and distribution system activities.
Key responsibilities include overseeing system operations, settlement data collection, and load management for transmission customer deliveries. The manager will coordinate communication and reporting of system activities, ensuring compliance with operating procedures and maintaining relationships with interconnected utilities. This role also involves participating in strategic planning and implementing departmental strategies aligned with cooperative objectives.
The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent communication skills and a proactive, improvement-focused approach. This role involves selecting, coaching, and developing team members, as well as collaborating with various departments and external agencies. The manager will serve as Compliance Planner, ensuring VEC's adherence to regulatory requirements from agencies such as FERC, NERC/CIP, ISO-NE, NPCC, and Vermont PUC/DPS.
This role involves review of contracts, identifying opportunities to better meet VEC's financial and strategic requirements, and making recommendations for implementation. Project management experience is highly desirable.
We are seeking candidates with a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent, plus five years of electrical utility or comparable experience, or a combination of education and experience. Working knowledge of ISO-New England Operating Procedures and NERC Reliability Standards is strongly preferred. Familiarity with industry-specific software such as NISC, Mapview, Milsoft, ArcGis, and AutoCAD is desirable.
The salary range for this position is $120,000-$130,000 per year with competitive health, dental, vision, retirement, and time off benefits.
