About the Opportunity

The Enterprise Data Services team has an immediate opening for an Advanced System Middleware Administrator. Our team build and support shared messaging services/solutions for our bank district customers.

This position will work directly with the Messaging team, EMSS/ESB. The EMSS/ESB team is responsible for evaluating and implementing solutions to on-board, build and deploy enterprise shared messaging solutions in the Cloud and on-Prem. You will work cross-functionally with Enterprise Architects, Product Owners, Design Engineers, Developers and Business Analysts in a rapidly evolving environment, identifying solutions, building, and implementing Infrastructure as Code using our CI/CD pipeline.

As part of the National IT team, our Enterprise Data Services team is partnered with multiple business lines, our Board of Governors and other IT groups within the Federal Reserve System. You will have an opportunity to showcase your critical thinking and technical skills across many disciplines.

What You Will Do:
  • Serve as subject matter expert on IBM MQ/IIB/ACE/MQ MFT/MuleSoft, includes technical assistance to application developers on Middleware related problems
  • Understand technology vision and strategic direction of business needs
  • Assess and make recommendations of best-practice solutions and/or new middleware and web technologies that will enhance the capabilities of the existing infrastructure.
  • Develop product roadmaps in alignment with other middleware/cloud products and business roadmaps
  • Design integrated solutions with design patterns, blueprints, guidelines, and standard methodologies for products
  • Participate in developing architecture and design conceptual solutions by incorporating cloud native and 3rd party vendor products
  • Provide analysis of current and future state along with defining key outcomes for a middleware platform strategy.
  • Participate in research and perform POCs (proofs of concept) with emerging technologies and adopt industry best practices, in the middleware space, for cloud migration and hybrid solutions
  • Successfully troubleshoot production issues application developers can't resolve; may include writing build and deployment scripts
  • Demonstrate automation as Infrastructure as code (IaC) to increase build efficiency in the cloud
  • Build a platform supporting both rehydration and HA along with emerging processes and technologies
  • Build an end-to-end automated infrastructure to support and maintain software currency
  • Create automation services for constructs using Terraform, Python, and OS shell scripts.
  • Develop validation and certification processes through automation tools
  • Develop multi-layered builds, installation, configuration, patching, regression testing, and rollback scripts in each environment.
  • Create patching process to compare different versions of the configuration settings.
  • Capacity planning - ensuring load balancing and clustering are optimized
  • Monitoring - monitor middleware performance and availability
  • Provide consulting and guidance on business solutions developed in the middleware space and cloud technologies
  • Demonstrate leadership, collaborate, exceptional communication, negotiation, strategic and influencing skills to gain consensus and produce the best solutions.
  • Engage with senior leadership, business leaders at the Federal Reserve and the Board to share the business value.
  • Promote collaboration across business and IT organizations
  • Production support 24/7 for a week, at least once a month

Qualifications:
  • Must have Business acumen skills to understand and anticipate business priorities
  • Demonstrates mutual respect, embraces diversity, and acts with authenticity
  • Demonstrates analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Subject matter expertise in IBM Middleware products like MQ/IIB/ACE/MQ MFT and MuleSoft
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Computer Engineering, or related field or equivalent work experience; advance degree preferred
  • Experience in designing and building large-scale solutions in an enterprise setting in both On-Prem/AWS
  • 5+ years in design/build/support of MQ/IIB/ACE Middleware solutions
  • 5+ years in designing and building with all aspects of cloud design, development, and implementation
  • 3+ years of experience with full stack development, including application, API, testing, and automation experience using at least one of the following languages (Terraform, JSON, Python)
  • 3+ years of experience designing, building, and supporting solutions hosted either on-prem or in the cloud, and experience with migrating applications to the cloud
  • Advanced proficiency in cloud specific solutions related to middleware
  • Experience in developing product roadmap in alignment with other middleware products and business roadmaps
  • Experience with leveraging CI/CD pipelines and GitLab is a must
  • Hands on experience in Terraform, Python, Ansible and OS shell scripts including automation tools
  • Hands on experience in one or more languages such as Java, Python, JavaScript
  • Experience with other AWS middleware solutions including various compute and storage offerings
  • Strong background in observability, networking, performance, and scalability.
  • Must be familiar with Agile methodologies and able to work in an Agile manner
  • Must have a very strong application development background
  • Microservices experience is a plus
  • Cloud Certification is a plus
  • Containerized platform experience is a plus
  • Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) experience is a plus

  • The hiring range is 113,000 - 154,990 annually.
  • For candidates outside Richmond, VA, listed hiring and salary ranges may be adjusted based on your geographic location.
