About the Opportunity

The NIT architecture team has an immediate opening for an advanced architect focusing on automation and devops tooling. The Automation Architect-Advanced will be responsible for developing and maintaining the infrastructure automation and the DevOps tooling architecture for National IT. They will lead the development and implementation of the frameworks in partnership with National IT product teams. The Automation Architect will work with product teams to select tools, develop standards, and deliver automation capabilities and solutions. The automation architect will ensure that teams are following software engineering best practices. As an advanced role, the automation architect is an advanced contributor and subject matter expert in field.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Recommends and implements solutions and frameworks based on business requirements and use cases
  • Partners with our clients and other resources in detecting critical architectural and infrastructure gaps or deficiencies in the environment and develops and implements solutions to address these gaps.
  • Develops an architectural roadmap highlighting key capabilities deliveries and integrations across the environment
  • Works with business and IT teams to identify opportunities to improve efficiency and effectiveness
  • Develops templates and standards that factor internal and industry common practices for consistent designs and implementations and then works with individual product teams and squads to ensure the adoption of these standards
  • Oversees and directs architectural discussions for both a technical and management audience.
  • Initiates and oversees project development, system design/testing, requirement direction and investigation of alternatives for implementation of feasible new technology.
  • Provides key consultative leadership on System projects focused on planning, development and implementation of strategic technological directives.
  • Proactively conduct research on emerging automation and cloud services, technologies, and standards to keep up with industry developments
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Education/Experience/Knowledge/Skills:
  • Proficiency in programming languages: Python, Golang, Ruby, Javascript and others
  • Experience with Git (e.g., branching, merging, GitFlow)
  • Experience with infrastructure-as-code and configuration management technologies (e.g., Terraform, Ansible, Chef, Puppet)
  • Experience with operating system scripting tools (e.g., Linux Shell Scripting, PowerShell)
  • Experience with containerization (e.g., Docker, Podman) and container orchestration (e.g., Kubernetes, Rancher)
  • Understanding of secure coding practices and with helping teams to adopt them (e.g., OWASP, SSDF)
  • Experience in CI/CD tooling: GitLab, Jenkins, GitHub and others
  • Experience with integrations, such as with IT service management, operations management, and decision intelligence platforms
  • Experience acting as technical lead or architect across automation, devops tooling or system software development
  • Experience with automated testing and release processes
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills. Able to present information within all settings in a credible, confident and influential manner.
  • Responsible for understanding and applying risk management discipline in decision making and contributing to his or her function`s risk management.
  • Works independently on broad assignments or under general directions as to scope or objectives.
  • Cloud certifications or industry certifications like The Open Group Architecture Framework (TOGAF) are considered to be a plus.
