As a Visualization / Business Intelligence Engineer at Northrop Grumman, you will be supporting an exciting, cutting-edge data analytics program enabling Enterprise data analytics at Northrop Grumman. We are looking for a self-motivated, enthusiastic person who is excited about taking on a variety of engineering challenges as we continue to push our data analytics capabilities forward.

The Chief Data Office - Data and Analytics organization is seeking a qualified Visualization / BI Engineer to join our team. Individuals in this role are responsible for analyzing data and delivering actionable information that helps executives, managers and workers make informed business decisions.

The Visualization / Business Intelligence Engineer is also expected to analyze data challenges and business opportunities and develop requirements and specifications for implementation. The ideal candidate will have a keen interest in the tools and processes around data and business intelligence and a passion for identifying and answering questions that help us deliver the best service for our customers.

These positions can be performed as a virtual telecommuter. We will consider candidates at the Staff or Sr. Staff level, depending on experience and education

Responsibilities include:
  • Provide technical and design leadership across Data Analytics portfolio with focus on Visualization Engineering
  • Work closely with customers to understand and analyze data and business intelligence challenges and opportunities
  • Work closely with customer to develop and implement visualization and business intelligence related solutions
  • Expected to be comfortable with a variety of BI related programming languages, techniques, and infrastructures.
  • Analyze data challenges and business opportunities and develop Enterprise strategies, requirements, and specifications for implementation.
  • Interest/Understanding in the tools and processes around ETL and data visualization and a passion for identifying and answering questions that help deliver the best service for our customers.
  • Work closely with Enterprise initiatives to understand and analyze data challenges and opportunities
  • Work closely with customers to advise, develop and implement BI related solutions and models
  • Drive the collection of new data and the refinement of existing data sources
  • Develop and manage Enterprise grade ETL workflows and Data Pipelines in support of Visualizations
  • Develop Enterprise grade visualizations and Business Insight / Intelligence reports
  • Solid understanding of Data Warehouse and Data Warehouse optimization techniques
  • Ability to communicate to various levels of management
  • Basic understanding and support of SAFE Agile framework
Basic Qualifications for Staff Level
  • Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) field with 14 years of related experience with bachelor's degree, 12 years with Master's degree; 9 years with a PhD.
  • A strong passion for problem solving using empirical research to solve complex problems
  • Experience solving analytical problems using quantitative approaches
  • Business Intelligence and Data Visualization experience using tools like Tableau, Cognos, or Power BI to address Enterprise needs
  • Experience using ETL tools such as SSIS, Alteryx and Tableau Prep (both at local and server publication level), to create data pipelines prior to visualization / BI.
  • Understanding of current set of Chief Data Office - Data and Analytics tools and technology ecosystem and experience with / ability to program and develop in following tools: SQL, Alteryx, SSIS, and Tableau
Basic Qualifications for Sr. Staff Level
  • Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) field with 17 years of related experience with bachelor's degree, 15 years with Master's degree; 10 years with a PhD.
  • A strong passion for problem solving using empirical research to solve complex problems
  • Experience solving analytical problems using quantitative approaches
  • Business Intelligence and Data Visualization experience using tools like Tableau, Cognos, or Power BI to address Enterprise needs
  • Experience using ETL tools such as SSIS, Alteryx and Tableau Prep (both at local and server publication level), to create data pipelines prior to visualization / BI.
  • Understanding of current set of Chief Data Office - Data and Analytics tools and technology ecosystem and experience with / ability to program and develop in following tools: SQL, Alteryx, SSIS, and Tableau
Preferred Qualifications
  • Understanding / Experience with the use of APIs for data access and integration
  • Proficient in one or more of the following databases / data sources: Microsoft SQL Server, Sybase, MySQL Server, DB2, Oracle, Hadoop
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively on a team
  • Competence and confidence working under pressure on requests with short turn-around times.
  • Excellent attention to detail applied to complex data integration and analysis projects.
  • Proficient in Atlassian tools (JIRA / Confluence).
  • Active DoD Secret security clearance.

Salary Range: $141,800 USD - $212,800 USD

Salary Range 2: $157,500 USD - $236,300 USD Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
