The University of Virginia Darden School of Business, one of the world's leading business schools, seeks an independent, data-driven, and analytic professional to serve as a Business Systems Analyst/Senior Business Systems Analyst. This position is responsible for all activities in the Career Center related to systems, analytics, and database management in support of strategic data-driven decision-making and reporting. This critical role will carry out data, data exploration, and reporting projects for the Darden Career Center and work closely with Strategic Enterprise Data Analytics and Digital Innovation. The Strategic Enterprise Data Analytics and Digital Innovation team carries out analytics and provides strategic insights to Darden's senior leadership. This position reports to the Assistant Dean, Career Center.
This position will develop solutions to meet the needs of the Career Center, address issues, manage challenges, and streamline processes by leveraging existing information systems and adoption of new technology-based solutions. This role will serve as the technical liaison to a wide range of external and internal stakeholders (career center advisors, employer relations team members, communications and marketing, corporate partners, Darden leadership, and vendors, including VMock, GradLeaders, and 12twenty) and provide escalated systems and data support for students of all Darden degree formats. To be considered for a Business Systems Analyst role, responsibilities include:- Analyze and report career center metrics and outcomes.
- Prepare career data in support of Darden's submission to accrediting body (AACSB) and media (US News & World Report, Bloomberg BusinessWeek, Financial Times, and others).
- Collaborate with stakeholders to analyze user and system requirements and document them in the form of BRD's (business requirements document) and FDD's (Functional Design Document).
- Contribute towards the enterprise data warehouse and analytics solution development.
- Create interactive dashboards, visualizations and reports leveraging Microsoft Power BI.
- Perform business analyst capabilities (e.g. source system analysis, source-to-target mapping, report wire-framing, requirements/user stories, and conceptual data modeling) in order to inform ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) and data architecture design.
- Develop Power BI data models and reports with compelling visual storytelling.
- Approve and/or define all data definitions in the Career Center subject area for all data analytics deliverables.
- Define data, create processes and procedures to monitor and enforce standards, maintaining the quality of the data.
- Manage request for information process for all Career Center stakeholders; prioritize and work through the request queue.
- Manage data quality to ensure accurate analysis and reporting, and own and protect data confidentiality in systems and reports.
- Serve as the subject matter expert on MBA Career Services & Employer Alliance (CSEA) standards and ensure data complies within established standards.
- Create process flows, presentations and reports to document recommendations and deliver them to the business stakeholders.
- Develop test plans, test cases, procedures, and documents given business requirements and design documents.
- Model extraordinary service levels with an emphasis on responsiveness and accuracy.
- Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.
- Utilize more depth of knowledge and experience to lead initiatives and projects that are more complex in nature.
- Apply experience to solve problems without review, and latitude to devise the approach and method to performing assignments.
- Perform long-term or non-routine assignments with minimal supervisory intervention, seeking assistance when significant deviations are proposed, or when unprecedented problems arise.
- Train, serve as a resource, and provide system training to new team members as well as ongoing systems and data analytics education to current team members.
- Assist senior staff in setting goals, allocating resources and tracking and evaluating results.
- Drive strategy to align Career Center systems and technologies with business objectives.
- Own Career Center data analytics strategy-identify, define, and prioritize data analytics projects and deliverables.
- Highly self-motivated to deliver both independently and with strong team collaboration.
- Strong written and oral communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, including ability to communicate with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Problem solver who enjoys managing inquiries and breaking down and framing challenges facing data and systems in the Career Center.
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize, balancing stakeholder requests and business requirements.
- Building reports, dashboards, and data visualizations skills required. Microsoft Power BI, Looker, or similar reporting tool preferred.
- Knowledge of relational and dimensional database structures, theories, principles, and practices required. Business intelligence, Tableau, Qlik, and/or Spotfire preferred.
- SQL, including ability to write stored procedures, triggers, analytic functions, and tuning preferred.
- Familiarity with Scrum and agile methodology preferred.
- Career management systems (Symplicity, Handshake, 12twenty, and/or GradLeaders) preferred.
- Knowledge or curiosity with Career Center operations, with on campus or on Grounds recruiting practices or with general recruiting and hiring practices preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace and successfully partner with, engage, and support professional stakeholders from diverse backgrounds.
- Microsoft Office suite, including strong skills in working with Excel, PowerPoint, and Power BI.
- Project Management Professional Certification (PMP) preferred.
