Description Job Description: ControllerPosition OverviewWe are seeking an experienced and results-driven Controller to assist one of our clients in Norfolk, VA. This contract Controller opportunity will focus on month end close, streamlining financial procedures, implementing new policy to create efficiencies, and helping reduce manual processes. This individual will partner with the existing accounting team and will work closely with senior leaders to optimize financial performance, drive process improvements, and provide meaningful insights into the financial health of the company.Key ResponsibilitiesMonth-End Close

Lead and manage all aspects of the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes to ensure timely and accurate reporting.

Reconcile balance sheet accounts, prepare journal entries, and review financial statement accuracy.

Develop and implement efficiencies to streamline and improve the month-end close timeline without compromising quality.

Fixed Asset Accounting

Oversee the management of company fixed assets, including maintaining accurate fixed asset schedules and performing regular asset reconciliations.

Establish procedures to monitor capitalization, depreciation schedules, and asset retirements.

Partner with operations teams to ensure asset tracking and usage align with company policies.

Process Improvement & Streamlining

Evaluate current accounting processes and systems to identify opportunities for improvement and increased efficiency.

Design and implement policies and procedures to strengthen internal controls and standardize workflows.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to automate manual tasks and integrate systems wherever possible.

Financial Reporting and Compliance

Prepare and deliver detailed financial reports, ensuring compliance with GAAP or other applicable accounting standards.

Provide financial analysis and insights to support decision-making at the executive level.

Stay up to date with regulatory and compliance requirements, incorporating changes into policies and practices as needed.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or CMA certification preferred Minimum of 5 years of experience in a Controller role or similar financial position Proficiency in Month End Close procedures and practices Demonstrated knowledge and experience in Fixed Asset Accounting Proven ability to improve efficiency in financial processes Extensive background in managing and overseeing General Ledger activities Expertise in Financial Reporting with a strong attention to detail Experience in preparing and analyzing Consolidated Financial Statements Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel Experience in automating tasks to enhance efficiency and accuracy in financial operationsRobert Half is the world’s first and largest specialized talent solutions firm that connects highly qualified job seekers to opportunities at great companies.
