As a Data Analyst Advisor supporting CMS, you will be trusted to work on leading data science tools to detect and prevent fraud, waste, and abuse (FWA) in the Medicare and Medicaid programs. In this role, a typical day will include:
Collaborating with CMS to solve FWA challenges
Utilizing a variety of methods (e.g., anomaly, social network, machine learning) to identify FWA
Conducting entry level ad-hoc projects as requested
Translating findings into actionable insights for non-technical audiences
Be a creative problem solver bringing innovative solutions to FWA challenges
Translate FWA findings into actionable insights for non-technical stakeholders
Use SQL and Python (or R) to query CMS data and build models that alert on anomalous Medicare provider activity
Follow CMS Fraud Prevention System (FPS) best practices for coding and design that ensure consistency and high quality in all FPS models
Create all model documentation in support of a model’s production release into FPS, e.g., Model Specifications, Model Workshop Slides, etc.
Present your work to a nationwide audience of investigators and other stakeholders at monthly workshop meetings
Participate in team meetings when requested
Required Skills:
Bachelors degree in Statistics, Computer Engineering, Applied Mathematics or related field with an analytical or technical focus (i.e. finance, economics and science) and at least 1 year of experience working with Data
Knowledge of SQL, SAS, R, and/or Python for data science
Competency in writing SQL code
Proficiency in R or Python
