We are actively seeking a

Database Administrator to join our current team on an active project supporting a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) National Environmental Satellite, Data, and Information Service (NESDIS) IT Support Services contract. The team provides data center management, consolidation, user support and associated IT services.

Job Title: Database Administrator Location: Remote Clearance Required: US Citizen, Public Trust Level 6

Position Description/Scope of Work:

The Database Administrator (DBA) will be responsible for the implementation, maintenance, and management of databases. The DBA will assist with database access, data modeling, performance problems, security and thorough documentation of processes. The position can be remote, however preference will be given to candidates who can work in Asheville, NC or Boulder, CO.

Responsibilities:

Major responsibilities include: database migrations, upgrades, patching, backup/recovery as well as creating and maintaining database objects (DDL), and code (SQL, PL/SQL, shell scripting) to implement administrative processes and scheduled jobs.The successful candidate will demonstrate substantive experience in database administration and development, primarily in Oracle (Oracle 19c), but also a working familiarity with other databases (MariaDB, PostgreSQL). A strong understanding of RDBMS concepts and principles is required. Will perform a variety of complicated tasks and a wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. Must possess a self-directed, proactive approach to work and problem solving.

Required Skills:
  • Backup and recovery - (RMAN, TSM, Netbackup)
  • Database performance tuning
  • VLDB techniques (partitioning, parallel query)
  • Spatial Data ( GIS applications; SDOGEOMETRY)
  • APEX and Oracle REST Data Services
  • Database code development: SQL, PL/SQL
  • Scripting (bash, python etc.)
  • Demonstrated understanding of the Linux Operating System
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Desired Skills:
  • Oracle Enterprise Manager
  • Jira/Confluence
  • Version Control (Git)
  • Government experience a definite plus
  • Experience with Scientific Data and Metadata
  • Familiarity with cloud-based databases and related data technologies
