Designer I/II - Electric Transmission Engineering Standards (Hybrid)

Job Summary This position will be filled at either the Designer I or Designer II level, commensurate with the successful candidate's experience, education, knowledge, skills, and abilities. Dominion Energy's ET Engineering Standards department is seeking a motivated Designer who will be responsible for supporting engineers in the development of substation engineering physical design standard drawings and 3D models, and leading global engineering standardization for Electric Transmission. This work is vital to supporting Dominion Energy's transmission and distribution growth plans and includes support of standards and innovation projects that will vary in size and complexity. While this position is primarily in an office environment, periodic field trips to Dominion substations will be required. These roles will create and modify the following detailed standard drawings and models in support of design standardization for substation engineering: these drawings include template construction/operating one-lines, template general arrangement plans, template elevation plans, template conduit plans, template steel details, template foundation details, and support proper application of equipment and materials within these standard details. Periodically, it will also be necessary to work with others on foundation designs, grounding application and materials, to ensure all structural and electrical requirements are met. A designer in Substation Engineering Standards would be expected to:- Create drawings that detail design of electric systems and components for Substation Facilities in accordance with applicable company and industry standards. Attribute 2D template drawings for global use in substation design and construction.
- Attribute 3D models for global use in designing substations with models for substation equipment, steel structures and other physical electrical and physical civil components and/or global design details.
- Provide routine and efficient revisions and enhancements to global design standard template 2D drawings and 3D models.
- Support Design modernization as a champion of integrating Autodesk 3D applications into the substation design environment.
- Support drawing production platforms (examples include: MicroStation, Inventor 3D, Civil 3D, Revit) as a substation design software coordinator for various software packages and tools.
- Support software updates and testing rollout to end users.
- Provide end-user support to teammates and partner groups.
- Keep up with CAD standards and templates for all relevant CAD platforms.
- Participate in industry forums to recommend design enhancements to team leaders, SMEs, and management.
- MicroStation or AutoCAD experience is required for Designer II, preferred for Designer I
- 3D Modeling experience in Autodesk Inventor or SolidWorks for Designer II, preferred for Designer I
- Knowledge of Substation Design Suite add-on for Inventor is a plus but not mandatory
- Experience with Autodesk Vault, Autodesk Revit, Autodesk Civil 3D for Designer II, preferred for Designer I
- Experience with MicroStation 2D CAD application for Designer II, preferred for Designer I

- General understanding of electrical, mechanical and civil design concepts
- Competency in applying technical concepts, standards, processes and procedures
- Ability to think analytically and solve technical problems

- Ability to work independently with minimal guidance, but knows when to get others involved
- Experience with interpreting technical drawings (i.e. one-lines, outline diagrams) is a plus
- Ability to work well with others
- Skills: Strong math skills including geometry and trigonometry required to perform complex calculations. Effective oral, interpersonal and written communication skills (including technical writing)
