Job Summary This position will be filled at either the Engineer I or II level, commensurate with the successful candidate's experience, education, knowledge, skills, and abilities. The Plant Engineer is responsible for plant engineering, operations and maintenance support and project management. The Plant Engineer serves as a resource for plant personnel to assist in the safe, effective, and efficient operation of the facility. The Plant Engineer performs all duties in accordance with plant policies, procedures, and regulations pertaining to operations, safety, environmental compliance, and ethics. PRIMARY FUNCTIONS Tracks and monitors overall plant performance (plant performance monitoring). Administer plant performance testing and compile results. Identifies, trends, and analyzes plant equipment, including rotating equipment, boilers, combustion and steam turbines, Generators and controls, and turbine auxiliary equipment, to maintain high availability. Recommends changes and enhancements in operations and maintenance that maximizes reliability. Analyzes equipment failures, assists with determining root causes, recommends recovery plans, and executes cost-effective solutions to prevent reoccurrence. Assist with inspections of all assigned equipment during outages or overhauls to evaluate overall condition and document remaining life assessment. Generate work orders for future work. Prepares and presents technical reports and presentations and reviews reports/results from contracted work. Perform engineering analysis and develops recommendations to improve or maintain generating plant efficiency, reliability, safety, and cost performance. Develops, communicates, and performs work practices and procedures to keep site drawings and documentation up to date. Maintains the Technical Information Library and files on design change requests and modifications. Responsible for tracking forced outages, loss of generation and conducting root cause analysis. Provides project management from initiation to closing, working with Operations and Maintenance. Develops and distributes requests for proposals / bid packages. Manages contractors/vendors to ensure safety and scope compliance. Coordinates with internal and external contacts to discuss new or modifications to existing equipment. Collaborates to resolve problems and exchange information. Prepares estimates and provides input to the Plant Operating & Maintenance and Capital Budgets. Assist with evaluation of equipment for long term planning and budget forecasting including economic justifications. Fully supports and participates in the Company and Plant Safety and Regulatory Compliance Programs Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience The knowledge, skills, abilities and experience required for entry into this job include the following:- Engineer I: 0 - 2 years of relevant engineering experience
- Engineer II: 3+ years of related engineering experience
- Maintenance background and relevant experience is desired.
- Display leadership, teamwork, and people management skills.
- Work flexibly within a team to support plant operations.
- Must be able to resolve a variety of issues/topics that are non-routine and complex with complete independence.
- Familiarity in software applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project, Power BI, Tableau, CAD, SAP, MATLAB, etc.
- Good communication skills at all levels, both internally and externally, written, and oral.
- Experience in budgeting and cost center control.
- Power station operations and maintenance of power plant / codes of practice, technical procedures, etc., including NERC and GADS familiarity.
- Excellent writing and analytical skills and an ability to present facts, conclusions, and recommendations in written communications, both in formal and informal formats.
- Experience with real-time performance management software such as EtaPro and OSI PI systems to monitor plant heat rate and efficiency.
- Distributed control systems and digital logic experience desired, along with networking knowledge.
- Possess a 4-year Engineering degree from an ABET accredited Engineering program based on the year that the Engineering program was accredited by ABET, or
- Possess a 4-year Engineering degree from an institution outside of the U.S. which is accredited through the country's own Engineering accrediting body under the Washington Accord as a full signatory, and is a degree that was recognized by the country's accrediting body on or after the date that full signatory status was achieved, or
- Possess a 4-year degree in Engineering (non-ABET accredited), Physics, Chemistry, Math or Engineering Technologyand a post-graduate Engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same Engineering discipline is ABET-accredited based on the year the Engineering program was accredited by ABET, or
- Holds or has previously held a valid U.S. Professional Engineer license.
