Job Summary There are two positions available that will be filled at either the Engineer II or Engineer III level, commensurate with the successful candidate's experience, education, knowledge, skills, and abilities. The newly formed Demand Side Operations Department seeks a self-motivated and forward-thinking candidate to provide full engineering support to include but not be limited to researching, assessing, analyzing, calculating, and providing technical specifications needed for the Demand Response and Load Curtailment Programs. The initial emphasis for the department will be on Data Center load, but will expand to manage other demand side resources in the future, such as Distributed Energy Resources (DER), batteries, etc. Under the direction of the Demand Side Operations leadership, this candidate should have the ability to exercise independence in evaluating, selecting, and applying moderate to complex engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria, as well as use independent judgment in prioritizing and making moderately complex design adaptations and modifications. This is an excellent and exciting opportunity for an individual with a strong work ethic, who enjoys using engineering concepts to devise new approaches, solving problems, and who excels at starting a project from the ground level and working to contribute to its success to full maturity. Duties Include:- Support the engineering required to assess, analyze, and recommend technical specifications for the development of hardware and software systems needed to monitor the real-time N-1 secure transmission limit.
- Work to develop specification and a sustainable means to automate the transmission of the load curtailment control signals for the load shedding actions for the Emergency Management System (EMS) to the Distribution Management System (DMS) down to the participant's equipment.
- Incorporate and ensure company regulatory policies are accounted for in all specification application design.
- Work to develop operating procedures for hardware and software applications
- Implement process and procedures to ensure alerts and warnings are issued to key stakeholders and actions are initiated accordingly.
- Survey customer equipment for the design of the control hand-off between DMS and the customer
- Support training efforts for Dominion and non-Dominion customers, as needed.
- Monitor and research industry trends related to load curtailment / demand side operations. Engage in various industry forums (ex., IEEE, CIGRE, NATF, SEE, etc.) to stay abreast of demand side management trends and technologies
- Provide technical expertise and/or technical leadership, as needed.
- Provide 24x7 technical support and rotational coverage of the program to ensure reliable operations
- Perform other duties as requested or assigned.
- Engineer II - 3+ years of relevant engineering experience (Note: A partial year of related work experience of 6 months or greater will be considered one year towards the qualifications)
- Engineer III - 5+ years of relevant engineering experience (Note: A partial year of related work experience of 6 months or greater will be considered one year towards the qualifications)
- Electric Transmission experience, preferred.
- Experience with demand side operations a plus.
- Knowledge of EMS and DMS, highly preferred
- Knowledge of telemetry systems, highly preferred
- Knowledge of major utility data flows including meter consumption, outages, and power quality, highly preferred
- Knowledge of control signals, highly preferred
- Full knowledge of engineering theories and principles, specifically in power systems.
- Skilled in use of advanced techniques and modification and extension of theories, precepts and practices of the field and related sciences and disciplines.
- Strong leadership skills with proven ability to serve as team project lead.
- Provide guidance to less experienced engineers.
- Strong oral and written communication skills (includes technical writing).
- Strong personal computer skills.
- Ability to think analytically and solve complex problems.
- In depth knowledge of various computer applications, with the ability to develop and/or manipulate personal computer applications and perform engineering calculations using applicable various software programs, including developing and/or managing algorithms.
- Equally effective working independently or in team environment with internal and external team members and/or stakeholders.
- Proven decision-making skills.
- Ability to think analytically and solve complex problems.
- Ability to interpret and apply codes, practices, and regulations in engineering designs.

- Possess a 4-year Engineering degree from an ABET accredited Engineering program based on the year that the Engineering program was accredited by ABET, or
- Possess a 4-year Engineering degree from an institution outside of the U.S. which is accredited through the country's own Engineering accrediting body under the Washington Accord as a full signatory, and is a degree that was recognized by the country's accrediting body on or after the date that full signatory status was achieved, or
- Possess a 4-year degree in Engineering (non-ABET accredited), Physics, Chemistry, Math or Engineering Technology and a post-graduate Engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same Engineering discipline is ABET-accredited based on the year the Engineering program was accredited by ABET, or
- Holds or has previously held a valid U.S. Professional Engineer license.
