Job Summary Dominion Energy's Power Generation Business Unit seeks an Engineer III with Boilers, HRSG, and associated power station experience, including engineering inspections, assessments, and recommendations, etc. Will provide Welding Engineering support, ASME Code and B31.1 field support, and engineering support for our Corporate NBIC "R" stamp. Successful candidate will provide the following corporate support in accordance with applicable codes and regulatory requirements to Dominion Energy's power generation (non-nuclear) fleet:
  • Boiler and HRSG Inspections - Perform and/or coordinate inspections to assets and recommend cost effective short-term repair and long tern preventive maintenance strategies, design improvements, and major equipment component replacement short/long term corporate strategies, requiring good equipment and system troubleshooting aptitudes.
  • Boiler and HRSG Root Cause Analysis - Lead or support root causes assessments to provide recommendations to correct/mitigate repetitive events, including cost-effective maintenance and operational procedures to maintain unit capacity, reliability, and efficiency.
  • Welding Engineering Support - Provide welding engineering support for weld assessments, design, quality assurance, and repair procedures, including stress relieving operations, in conjunction with Dominion Energy's Corporate Welding Manual and corporate "R" stamp program. This supports both ASME Boiler Pressure Vessel and Power Piping Codes.
  • Planned and Forced Outage Support - Provide Boiler, HRSG, and welding assessment and repair recommendations for more complex maintenance events.
  • Engineering Support - Includes technical studies, field assessments with power station personnel, work scopes and specification development, cost estimates, construction support, vendor and QC surveillance, and coordination with maintenance or contractors for work execution. Good power station operations and maintenance knowledge is a required base line to effectively support the areas above.
  • Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

    Technical Knowledge Qualifications:
    • Engineer III & Engineering Technical Specialist III: Minimum 5 years of technical engineering support experience in the maintenance and operation of fossil-fueled (coal, oil, gas) boiler and HRSG steam generators
    • Knowledge welding &material sciences, non-destructive examination processes, thermodynamic processes, and basic boiler/HRSG component design
    • Knowledge of ASME Boiler Pressure Vessel & Power Piping Codes (Section I and B31.1), National Board Inspection Codes (NBIC), and working knowledge of Non-Destructive Examination (NDE) methods and welding processes

    Non-Technical Skills and Requirements
    • Must be an effective worker both independently and in a team environment
    • Communication Skills - Effective written & verbal skills that foster positive interpersonal communication
    • Strong leadership skills
    • Self-starter and takes initiative to resolve issues
    • Computer Skills - Proficient in Plant Information (PI), ProcessBook and MS Office applications
    • Strong conflict resolution skills
    • Ability to give presentations, manage multiple projects, train and mentor others

    Preferred Qualifications:
    • AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI)
    • Professional Engineering (PE)
    • NDE Certifications

    Education Requirements Education Level:

    Engineering Technical Specialist III: Degree or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education: Bachelor Preferred Discipline(s): Engineering Technology, Physics, Biology, Computer Engineering Other discipline(s) may be substituted for the preferred discipline(s) listed above. In order to be a titled Engineering Technical Specialist, you must meet one of the following criteria:
    • 4-year Engineering Technology degree or 4-year degree in Engineering (not ABET-accredited); or
    • 4-year degree in Physics, Math, Chemistry, Biology, Computer Engineering or other technical related discipline; or
    • 4-year non-technical degree and post-graduate degree in Engineering Technology or Engineering (not ABET-accredited); or
    • Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred degree

    Engineer III: Required: Bachelor's degree in Engineering

    Engineer III: REQUIRED ENGINEERING CRITERIA: For placement of a candidate in the Engineer job series, the following criteria must be met:
    • Possess a 4-year Engineering degree from an ABET accredited Engineering program based on the year that the Engineering program was accredited by ABET, or
    • Possess a 4-year Engineering degree from an institution outside of the U.S. which is accredited through the country's own Engineering accrediting body under the Washington Accord as a full signatory, and is a degree that was recognized by the country's accrediting body on or after the date that full signatory status was achieved, or
    • Possess a 4-year degree in Engineering (non-ABET accredited), Physics, Chemistry, Math or Engineering Technology and a post-graduate Engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same Engineering discipline is ABET-accredited based on the year the Engineering program was accredited by ABET, or
    • Holds or has previously held a valid U.S. Professional Engineer license.
