Complexity of assignments, expectations, and responsibilities increase based on level.This role provides Electric Distribution Engineering support for the integration of Energy Storage Systems into the Dominion Energy Service Territory. Specifically, this role is responsible for:

Providing Support for both stationary and Mobile Energy Storage System Projects that are being constructed on Dominion Energy’s Distribution System.

Providing subject matter expertise in power systems, power system controls, power systems equipment sizing and selection, and power system analytics.

Performing Energy Storage System Feasibility Studies to understand if Non-Wires Alternative Solutions can be deployed as an alternative to traditional Distribution Infrastructure upgrades.

Representing the company at various Energy Storage System related regional and national working groups and conferences.

Keeping up with Energy Storage System industry trends and new technologies.

Interfacing with customers and various departments within Dominion Energy to assist with the successful integration of Energy Storage Systems into the Dominion Energy Service territory.

This role includes entry-level to senior level engineers within the job series that are able to perform difficult and complex work requiring thorough knowledge of the subject matter and experience within the functional assignment area. The role will schedule and coordinate major segments of complex projects to meet cost and time objectives. The role will plan and conduct work requiring judgment in the independent evaluation, selection, adaptation and modification of standard techniques, procedures and criteria. Ultimately, the Engineer is this position will work on a team to deploy Energy Storage Systems and will oversee projects from conception to commissioning. In this position, incumbents are expected to provide technical expertise team leadership. Incumbents will be required to apply intensive and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices to major projects that have significant impact on programs in varied areas and related fields. This role may serve as a technical expert on engineering related legal and regulatory issues to outside entities and perform other duties as requested or assigned.Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & ExperienceEngineer I - 1 + years of engineering experience.Engineer II - 3 + years of relevant engineering experience.Engineer III - 5-6+ years of relevant engineering experience.Engineering Technical Specialist I - 1 + years of relevant experience and competencies in applicable discipline.Engineering Technical Specialist II - 2 + years of relevant experience and demonstrated competencies in applicable discipline.Engineering Technical Specialist III - 5 + years of relevant experience and demonstrated competencies in applicable discipline.

Demonstrated knowledge working with inverter-based systems and specific knowledge on controlling inverter-based resources using SEL-RTACs.

Knowledge of microgrids and previous experience working on microgrid projects.

Knowledge of energy storage systems, electric power distribution equipment, system protection systems, and electric/electronic instrumentation.

Knowledge of DNP-3 and/or MODBUS protocols.

Ability to manage long-term Energy Storage System projects.

Ability to think analytically and solve complex problems.

Strong planning, organizational and project management skills.

Skilled in use of advanced techniques and modification and extension of theories, precepts and practices of the field and related sciences and disciplines.

Strong leadership skills with proven ability to serve as team project lead.

Strong oral and written communication skills (includes technical writing).

Equally effective working independently or in team environment.

Proven decision-making skills.

Ability to process information quickly and effectively manage multiple tasks.

Preferred:

Prior work experience in an electric utility power plant.

Experience working with Lithium-Ion Energy Storage Systems.

PLC programming experience.

Programming experience in Python, C, Java, or C#.

Ability to breakdown complex engineering concepts for mass consumption.

Experience and knowledge of Electric Power Plant, Electric Transmission, and Electric Distribution grid operations.

Education RequirementsRequired Engineering Criteria:For placement of a candidate in this position as an Engineer, one of the following criteria must be met:

Possess a 4-year engineering degree from an ABET accredited engineering program based on the year that the engineering program was accredited by ABET, or

Possess a 4-year engineering degree from an institution outside of the U.S. which is accredited through the country's own engineering accrediting body under the Washington Accord as a full signatory, and is a degree that was recognized by the country's accrediting body on or after the date that full signatory status was achieved, or

Possess a 4-year engineering degree from a non-ABET accredited program and a post-graduate engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same engineering discipline is ABET accredited based on the year the engineering program was accredited by ABET, or

Possess a 4-year degree in Physics, Chemistry, Math or Engineering Technology and a post-graduate engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same engineering discipline is ABET accredited based on the year the engineering program was accredited by ABET, or

Holds or has previously held a valid U.S. Professional Engineer license.

Required Engineering Technical Specialist Criteria:For placement of a candidate in this position as an Engineering Technical Specialist, one of the following criteria must be met:

Possess a 4-year engineering degree from an Non-ABET accredited engineering program.

Possess a 4-year engineering degree from an institution outside of the U.S. which is accredited through the country's own engineering accrediting body.

Possess a 4-year degree in Engineering Technology, Computer Networking, Computer Science, or Physics.
