Our work depends on a Data Engineer joining our team to support Big Data activities in Herndon, VA.At GDIT, our people are at the center of everything we do. As a Data Engineer supporting our customer, you will perform work on Data Flows and web services to ETL customer data sets and deliver it to the downstream consumers. You will also be trusted to coordinate with other stakeholders to support the maintenance and enhancement of the customer’s data lifecycle platform and tools as well as those deployed elsewhere in the enterprise. You may participate in designing, prototyping, testing, and assessing tools and procedures to improve technology and processes for stakeholders in the data lifecycle, including data tradecraft, management, and science teams as well as owners and administrators of various tools and technologies. In this role, a typical day will include:
Movement of structured and unstructured data (gigabyte to terabyte range) using Sponsor approved methods.
Execute data ingestion activities for storing data in a local or enterprise level location.
View data in its source format.
Develop code to format data that facilitates exploration.
Analyze source data formats and work with Data Scientists and Mission Partners to determine the formats and transforms that best meet mission objectives.
Develop code and tools to provide one-time and on-going data formatting and transformations into enterprise data models.
Implement existing ETL code and best practices/standards that are currently in use in the enterprise.
Develop and deliver software documentation for each code project that includes ETL mappings, code use guide, code location (generally GitHub) and access instructions, and anomalies encountered.
Facilitate code reviews to identify bugs and areas for code improvement to ensure high quality software.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED (REQUIRED SKILLS):
