Do you want to build automation that will influence the national security and defense mission agency partners of AWS?Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking aSystem Development Engineer to take the lead of solving some of the toughest operational challenges in some of the most sensitive and mission critical clouds.Amazon is looking for Systems Development Engineers to build, deploy, operate, sustain, and grow the software systems that build, scale, monitor, secure, manage, and automate one of world's largest networks. The systems team will drive the stability and sustainability of these next-generation systems and discover innovative ways to scale and operate them reliably as we expand. In this role, you will work with systems and software engineers to create proactive engineering mechanisms that will enable your team to manage the health of a number of distributed specialized Linux server fleets and the software stacks that run on them. You will deploy and monitor the systems and automation to ensure that regional tooling is operating optimally. You will utilize trends and metrics to identify opportunities for improvements within existing frameworks, tools and processes to continuously improve systems.The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, be detail driven, and have excellent problem solving abilities. You will be comfortable designing, building, deploying, and operating. He/she will be responsible for systems functionality, performance, and configurations issues. He/she will demonstrate sound knowledge of Unix and Scripting concepts and theory, and have experience participating in systems deployment and support. 5+ years of administrative experience in networking, storage systems, operating systems and hands-on systems engineering experience

2+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

1+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

Knowledge of systems engineering fundamentals (networking, storage, operating systems); experience programming with at least one modern language such as C, C#, Java, Python, Golang, PowerShell, Ruby

Cloud+ or GICSP (Global Industrial Cyber Security Professional) or GSEC (GIAC Security Essentials) or SSCP (Systems Security Certified Practitioner) OR Associate’s Degree

Preferred Qualifications

2+ years of development/programming/scripting language (Python/Java/Bash/Perl) experience

2+ years Experience with PowerShell (preferred), Python, Ruby, or Java

Experience working in an Agile environment using the Scrum methodology

Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations

Experience taking a leading role in building complex software or computing infrastructure that has been successfully delivered to customers

Ability to dive deep to analyze complex issues, solve problems, and automate repetitive tasks

Excellent documentation skills

Excellent problem solving skills with a strong attention to detail

Experience with agile software development practices

Proven ability to troubleshoot large distributed systems and dive code to identify root causes

Experience with service-oriented architecture and current web service technologies

Exposure to machine learning data analysis techniques

Meets/exceeds Amazon’s leadership principles requirements for this role

The base pay for this position ranges from $105,200/year in our lowest geographic market up to $188,200/year in our highest geographic market.
