As a System Administrator 3, we are looking for a candidate with a background in System Administration, Ethical decision making, and a team player. This position is located at the NetCenter in Hampton, VA and travel is 10%. This position does require to work on-site for at least 4 days a week due to working in classified spaces.

What You Will Do

  • Maintains smooth operation of multi-user computer systems, including coordination with network administrators.
  • Duties may include setting up administrator and service accounts, maintaining system documentation, tuning system performance, installing system wide software and allocate mass storage space.
  • Interacts with users and evaluates vendor products.
  • Makes recommendations to purchase hardware and software, coordinates installation and provides backup recovery.
  • Develops and monitors policies and standards for allocation related to the use of computing resources.
  • Execute and monitor all backup / fault tolerance activities; test recovery procedures to ensure quick and successful execution during actual recovery operations
  • Plan and execute software updates and patching to maintain security posture while minimizing downtime
  • Build and maintain identity and access management systems including administrative and standard accounts as well as role-based authentication
  • Assist and backup the Information Systems Security Manager (ISSM) as an Information Systems Security Officer (ISSO)
  • Maintain system documentation, tune system performance, and manage storage partitioning and allocation

What You Must Have

  • 6 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 4 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 10 years relevant experience.
  • Knowledge of procedures in safeguarding and accountability of classified materials
  • Experience installing, configuring, and maintaining various commercial-grade hardware components from major IT vendors (i.e. Dell, Cisco, APC, HP) including: servers and workstations, networking appliances (switches & routers), storage arrays, uninterruptible power supplies, printers and plotters
  • Experience administering, troubleshooting, and maintaining Windows Active Directory domains
  • Experience building, testing, and executing backup recovery strategies
  • Experience working with database management systems (DBMS) such as SQL Server and Oracle.
  • Experience with including database backups into overall backup recovery strategies and backup automation.
  • Basic working knowledge of SQL queries and simple database design tasks
  • Experience troubleshooting and resolving complex hardware, software, and access control issues
  • Experience in leading teams
  • Active Secret Clearance

Bonus Points For Having!

  • Experience supporting DoD-approved networks in an Information Systems Security Officer (ISSO) or Information Systems Security Manager (ISSM) capacity
  • Experience performing holistic analysis and documentation of IT networks, and building upgrade plans that improve overall network performance and cost efficiency
  • DoD-approved 8570 baseline cybersecurity certification at a minimum of IAT Level II (ex. CompTIA Security+ CE)
  • Experience administering RHEL (Linux RedHat) servers, including significant experience working within the Linux command line
  • Experience building and administering cloud assets (prefer AWS). Experience migrating on-prem IT assets to the cloud is a major plus
  • Previous shipboard experience
