- Performs day-to-day activities required to manage data services, utilizing a broad set of tools to design, manage, and maintain all aspects of data networking
- Configure and install various network devices and services (e.g., routers, switches, firewalls, end user workstations, VPN, QoS)
- Perform network maintenance and system upgrades including service packs, patches, hot fixes, and security configurations
- Monitor performance and ensure system availability and reliability
- Monitor system resource utilization, trending, and capacity planning
- Provide Level-2/3 support and troubleshooting to resolve issues
- Work within established configuration and change management policies to ensure awareness, approval and success of changes made to the network infrastructure
- Select and implement security tools, policies, and procedures
- Liaise with vendors and other IT personnel for problem resolution
- Task requires extensive travel and involves measurable physical exertion when climbing ladders, gangways, or otherwise working within the restricted confines of spaces aboard ships
- Support RMS Nautical Systems Enterprise (NSE) aboard ships and associated shoreside support facilities
- Support ship activations/de-activations, training cruises, and sea trials
- Participate in ship replication scheduling during sea trials, activations, and training cruises
- Support NSE training activities aboard ships and at MARAD offices
- Develop and submit Ship/Site Visit Reports for MARAD review
- Review technical documentation
- Utilize superior time management and personal accountability skills to prioritize and complete multiple independent and simultaneous projects.
