Job Summary Surry Power Station, located in Surry, Virginia is looking for a Digital I&C Project Engineering intern to work in its Subsequent License Renewal (SLR) Engineering department the summer of 2023. The SLR Team is working on a large Project Portfolio to upgrade / retrofit the plant to extend the viable generation of carbon free electricity for an additional 20 years, from the current license end at year 60 to year 80. The specific project is analog-to-digital instrumentation and control (I&C) modernization and main control room upgrade at Surry Power Station. Job duties will include but not limited to: Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience- Development of technical documents to evaluate digital and computer equipment for replacement of older analog and digital systems.
- Supporting development of Engineering Change Package and System Requirements Specification documents including field walkdowns, interfacing with the plant Maintenance and Operations staff, and working with vendors.
- Supporting development of project cost plans, risk mitigation strategies and schedules.
- Support the preparation/review of engineering studies to evaluate recommended equipment/system replacements in order to provide technically sound engineering solutions.
- Support the preparation and revision of specifications for the design of new or replacement electrical, instrumentation and control (I&C), Digital and/or Computer equipment and interface with vendors to resolve technical matters.
- Must possess an understanding of basic computer principles and practices
- Possess basic analytical and conceptual thinking
- Basic knowledge and experience in digital systems and programming and mechanical/electrical interactions (e.g., robotics or similar skill-set)
- Has the ability to read and understand basic coding
- Ability to evaluate problems and make sound decisions
- Has the ability to communicate clearly with diverse means and audiences
