  • Demonstrates accountability for essential clinical knowledge to positively affect patient outcomes within the scope of nursing practice while assessing, planning, intervening and evaluating care.

  • Collaborates with patients, families, and the healthcare team to coordinate care for an effective and current plan of care.

Intensive Care Services

We are an HCA Healthcare facility and for more than a century,we have delivered the highest quality healthcare to residents of Southwest Virginia. Our board-certified, multidisciplinary team of specialists offer compassionate care for our Medical, Cardiac and Surgical ICU patients. Our three units each offer specialized care for a range of conditions, from stroke recovery to open-heart surgery.

Additional information about our Cardiac ICU:
  • 12-Bed CICU
  • Nurse to patient ratio based on acuity
  • Patient turnover ranges from 2 days - 2 months depending on patient conditions
  • Types of patients you will see on this unit: STEMI, Cardiogenic Shock,and Post Cardiac Arrest
  • Nurses in this unit will be trained for Therapeutic Hypothermia, Impella,Intra-aortic Balloon Pump, and Continuous renal replacement therapy
  • New leader on this unit with a passion for supporting nurses in reaching their professional goals, excellent practice, and collegial relationships
  • Growth opportunities include: Critical Care Registered Nurse(CCRN) certification and participation in Shared Governance Councils

EDUCATION REQUIRED AND/OR PREFERRED:
  • Diploma or AssociatesDegree from a professional nursing program (required)
  • BSN or current enrollment in a BSN program at an accredited school of Nursing (preferred)
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:
  • Current licensure as an RN in the state of Virginia or current multi-state compact RN license with eligibility to practice in VA is required.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Health Care Provider (required)
