Job Title: Segment InspectorJob DescriptionAcquire hands-on experience in both field and office environments. Learn to design and prepare construction drawings for civil, transportation, mechanical, water/wastewater, and utility projects. Get an overview of opportunities within the company, including civil, road and bridge design, industrial, commercial, utilities, and public sector work. Collaborate with a diverse group of talented leaders and build relationships across the company, aligning your skills and interests with various engineering disciplines.Responsibilities
Inspect and monitor contractual fieldwork, including excavations, drainage facilities, concrete placement, steel and precast member erections, soil and aggregate placement, road surfaces, and structures of moderate complexity.
Verify construction of roadway and highway to be in compliance with drawings, VDOT specifications and standards, special provisions, and contract documents.
Advise contractors of deficiencies, issues, failing tests, noncompliance, and provide reference documents for conclusions.
Take field measurements of materials placed and record production and test results.
Perform materials testing such as nuclear gauge soil and aggregate density, and perform dense aggregate roller pattern control strips.
Review placement of and perform materials tests on concrete deliveries in accordance with VDOT and ACI standards.
Make cylinders for delivery to the labs.
Review and inspect asphalt and concrete roadways and bridge decks.
Review and inspect reinforcing steel and forms prior to concrete placement of more complex and non-routine structures, and sign pour cards.
Review lines, grades, dimensions, and elevations using standard survey and field engineering equipment.
Oversee and enforce the installation of erosion/siltation controls, highways work zones, and traffic control devices.
Prepare daily diaries, inspection checklists, and materials testing forms.
Receive materials delivery tickets for compliance and submission to the contractor.
Take assignments and direction from Quality Control Lead Management and Senior Inspectors.
Track deficiencies and nonconformance and their corrective actions; document in daily work activity prep meetings and actively participate in kickoff meetings for work activities.

Work EnvironmentThe work environment includes both field and office settings, with outdoor work in various weather conditions (cold, hot, rain, snow, etc.). The role requires the ability to perform general labor duties such as lifting (<50lbs) and recording inspection data into a tablet. There is a significant amount of overtime available, and a night shift differential of an extra $1.50/hr is provided for any night shift hours.Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $22.00 - $28.00/hr.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
