The Senior Director of Cloud Engineering is a key strategic position that will lead and manage the Cloud Technology Excellence teams in developing a world-class cloud foundation which will provide capabilities to migrate large-scale on-prem applications and enable the development of new cloud native applications in a public cloud while operating in a regulated financial environment. You will serve as a leader in the Technology Excellence Cloud enablement team and work closely with the technology leadership teams to drive overall cloud adoption for the enterprise. You will collaborate closely with teams across the organization to provide strategic direction and guidance to support a rapidly evolving public cloud adoption landscape.

Job Description : As a senior leader driving the core capability build-out of enterprise cloud platform at SVB, you will be in the driver seat of SVB's Cloud Transformation journey in building resilient infrastructure foundations in the public cloud. As a Senior Cloud migration leader, you will lead teams of Cloud Infrastructure, Automation and SRE Engineers to migrate SVB enterprise applications to AWS cloud, and in the process, enriching our client experience with highly available, resilient and performant applications. Are you excited by the prospect of solving large-scale FinTech problems through innovative engineering? Do you like to use your cloud technologies expertise to build observability frameworks needed for pro-actively identify infrastructure and application issues before it surfaces to the end-users and clients?

Responsibilities:

Lead a team of 25+ talented cloud infrastructure engineers

Lead the analysis of existing on-prem applications and architect, develop cloud foundations, and migrate the applications to AWS.

Leverage various cloud application migration strategies such as Re-platforming, Re-hosting and Re-architecting applications based on the enterprise technology strategy

Design and develop complex cloud native applications in AWS cloud in a multi-region, multi-AZ distributed set up

Envision, Design and Build end-to-end Observability for Applications running on AWS Platform

Collaborate with product engineering teams to develop and deploy applications using Gitlab, Terraform, AWS services and methodologies

Ensure security is integrated into all of the cloud architecture solutions

Develop and migrate mission critical services to public cloud and build automated testing, deployment and release processes

Have full oversight into changes going into production, asset tagging, cost and capacity analysis, vulnerability, and patch management

Partner closely with peer engineering leaders to ensure, we operate as a single team

Proven leadership with ability to lead multiple teams in a fast-paced multi-disciplinary environment

A willingness to mentor people inside/outside of the Information Technology department on best practices, system design principles, and industry trends

Demonstrated ability to bring the benefits of technology to solve business issues while also managing costs and risk

Able to influence decisions at various levels of corporate management

Excellent written, oral communication skills and strong negotiating skills

Passionate about staying on top of technology trends, experimenting with and learning new technologies

Technical Skills:

Strong implementation experience with cloud architecture patterns, building API's, Microservices, Event Processing and high-throughput distributed systems

Experience leading teams to build solutions on AWS using services such as EC2, S3, VPC, SNS, SQS, ECS, EKS, Lambda, Dynamo DB, RDS, Redshift, Glue etc.

Ability to lead a team of engineers to leverage Terraform and contribute new Terraform templates for reuse across organization

Experience in leading teams in developing solutions in Java, Node.js, React or Dot Net Languages

Experience with DevOps tools such as Jenkins, Maven, GitLab, SonarQube in the cloud environment

A leader capable of managing high performance teams, flexibility in a dynamic working environment

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related technical discipline recommended

10+ years of application engineering experience

AWS Certification in Developer or Solution Architect is preferred

5-10 years of demonstrated experience in designing and developing complex distributed IT solutions (e.g., cloud, distributed systems or high-performance computing experience)
