Job Description/ResponsibilityThe primary goal of the Telecommunications Technician is to provide installation and maintenance support for telecommunications infrastructure including single mode fiber optic cable, microwave radio systems, transport routers, and DC systems. In addition to “normal” daily work, this position will be part of a team that provides 24x7 field support, at the direction of the Network Operations Center (NOC), for communication outages.

Desired Experience, Skills and Work Ethic/Qualifications
  • Detailed knowledge and hands on experience with single mode fiber optic cable, fusion splicing, and installation best practices.
  • Skilled in single mode fiber testing with OTDR.
  • Troubleshoot MPLS Ethernet Networks and microwave radios.
  • TDM testing of DS1's.
  • Skilled in the installation of telecommunications equipment including running power leads, installing fuse panels, cable management, fiber management, cable terminations, and grounding.
  • Support, installation, and testing of microwave radio systems, elliptical wave guide, microwave antennas, and the necessary grounding for each component.
  • Knowledge of grounding practices for communication buildings and antenna support structures.
  • Basic understanding of the components that make up a tower lighting system.
  • Fiber splicing experience preferred.
  • Detailed knowledge and hands on experience with channel banks/multiplexers.
  • Basic understanding of data networking.
  • Must be safety conscious and detailed oriented.
  • Effective computer skills including knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office Products to include Visio, Power Point, Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Demonstrate technical documentation skills as needed.
  • Small project leadership experience.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Analytical, abstract thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Work effectively within a team environment.
  • Willing to adhere to established best practices, standards, change management policies and procedures.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing workflow.
